‘Where’s Durham?’: Busy Trump chases ghost special counsel, prepares to visit US border

Though out of office, former President Donald Trump certainly isn’t out of the spotlight.

Besides sitting with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham for an interview this week, the former president also released a pithy statement questioning the whereabouts of special counsel John Durham, and indicated that he may travel to the southern U.S. border.

Published Friday, a day after his Fox News interview, the pithy statement — issued through a formal press release — measured only 16 words.

Where’s Durham? Is he a living, breathing human being? Will there ever be a Durham report?” the stunning statement read.

Look:

Ever since then-Attorney General Bill Barr appointed Durham special counsel in the Russia collusion predicate case, the famed U.S. attorney kind of disappeared.

The last time he was heard from was late last month when word emerged that he’d announced his resignation as U.S. Attorney for Connecticut. However, it was made clear that this would not affect his special counsel gig.

Trump’s anger may stem from the fact that, unlike former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion delusion and hoax investigation, Durham’s investigation hasn’t involved “bombshells” being leaked to the press every other day.

During the collusion investigation, “bombshell” leaks accusing the president and his family members and associates of this, that and the other occurred all the time.

With Durham, on the other hand, the work has been conducted quietly and with no hysterical fanfare from the mainstream press, which, as a veritable proxy for the Democrat Party, has nothing to gain from his investigation.

So the question remains, where is he, and how is his investigation progressing?

That Trump chose to raise this question through a press release wasn’t surprising. Speaking on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” on Thursday, the former president expressed his newfound love for press releases.

“What I’m doing now, I almost like it better. I think I do like it better,” he said, contrasting his new strategy with his prior one of just posting tweets.

“We’re issuing press releases. We’re no longer constrained by a certain number of characters. We’re no longer put under, you know, the magnifying glass. So I put out statements now from the office, and the statements are picked up by everybody. I mean, it actually works better,” he added.

During his interview on Fox News, the former president also bashed current President Joe Biden for triggering a border crisis that’s overwhelmed the country’s illegal alien detention facilities, forcing kids to be stuffed in holding cells like sardines.

“We had the border the most secure. … We built almost 500 miles of wall, and it was new wall. … In addition to that, Mexico worked great with us. … They gave us 28,000 soldiers along our border, and they stopped people from coming in,” he said.

“And what you are doing now and what you’re seeing now is inhumane. These children and people are — a tremendous a number of children, by the way — but they are living on top of each other, in squalor. And this is squalor.”

Fact-check: TRUE.

Because of his concern about the crisis — a concern seemingly not shared by the Biden administration — the former president is mulling traveling to the border, according to former Trump 2016 and 2020 campaign official Jason Miller

“I could see him doing that soon. Not immediately, but I could see a trip, some point in the future here, but it is something that [former] President Trump is really concerned about,” he said Thursday on conservative talk radio show host Michael Berry’s program.

Miller added that the former president’s abstained from a border visit thus far to avoid Biden accusing him of “making a scene.”

“I think that President Trump wanted to let Joe Biden go and fail on his own before he goes and steps in on that. I think there’s a very fine line between calling someone out on their policies and then appearing to do something that’s showboating,” he said.

Listen to his discussion with Berry below:

Miller for his part doesn’t seem to expect much, if any, success from the Biden administration as it pertains to re-securing the border.

In fact, he went on to call Vice President Kamala Harris “Mrs. Open Borders” and noted how both Harris and Biden had expressed enthusiastic support for illegal immigration during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary debates.

“Joe Biden stood on that debate stage with the Democrats and even reiterated his belief in the general election that he supported citizenship for 11 million undocumented folks,” Miller said.

“That’s like putting up a signal flare of Fourth of July firework proportions to the entire Western Hemisphere for everyone who wants to come to the United States to come.”

Indeed, there’s a reason why many of the illegal aliens who’ve been apprehended along the border have been found to be wearing Biden 2020 t-shirts.
