Trump rumored to visit border ‘soon’ as Border Patrol union head slams Biden’s immigration policies

The head of the Border Patrol union said Friday that President Joe Biden’s immigration policies have created a dramatic increase in human smuggling by the Mexican cartels after such activity had fallen to a 45-year low under former President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Newsmax TV, National Border Patrol Council chief Brandon Judd, who accompanied a group of 18 GOP senators to the border this week, told host Rob Schmitt that human and drug trafficking have risen dramatically in the few months since Biden reversed nearly all of Trump’s border and immigration enforcement policies.

Before bringing Judd in, Schmitt played clips of Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, both of whom railed at the current administration’s policy changes.

“This is a manmade crisis. This was avoidable, this was preventable,” Cruz said.

“We’re complicit as a nation in human trafficking,” Graham added.

As Schmitt brought Judd in, the union chief said he accompanied the senators and brought them to the border where they saw, among other things, “apprehensions taking place.”

Judd said that at least some of the senators engaged in a verbal back-and-forth with cartel smugglers on the other side of the Rio Grande River who were calling the lawmakers names and taunting them.

“They got to see first-hand how difficult the job is,” said Judd. “And it’s become so much more difficult because of the administration’s policies that are allowing these people to come in and get released into the United States, which is causing this huge flood.”

In response, Schmitt reported that right before the senators started a news conference earlier in the day, Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin noticed a body that had floated up to shore.

Judd explained that he himself had found several bodies in the desert and along the shores of the Rio Grande while on duty, suggesting that deaths only increase as smuggling and trafficking rise.

The Border Patrol union chief said that current immigration policies featuring ‘catch-and-release’ are responsible for “generating billions” in revenue for the cartels while the previous administration’s policies had dramatically reduced smuggling and profits.

“It’s human smugglers who have absolutely no regard for life and it’s the administration who is allowing these smugglers to generate billions of dollars in profit because they’re not securing the border like the last administration did,” he said. “We were able to stop this huge flood, to go to 45-year lows in illegal smuggling of humans just to get it all back once the election was finalized.”

Meanwhile, a former aide to Trump, Jason Miller, said the ex-president is planning a return to the U.S.-Mexico border “soon” as the Biden administration continues to struggle to contain the influx.

“I could see him doing that soon,” Miller told conservative podcaster Michael Berry this week, adding that Trump is “really concerned” about it.

Miller said that Trump had yet to visit the border because he wanted to give Biden time to “fail on his own.” He went on to say that the former president understands publicly criticizing Biden, if it isn’t done properly, could give the current president the chance to say Trump is “making a scene” at the border for political gain.

“I think there’s a very fine line between calling someone out on their policies and then appearing to do something that’s showboating,” Miller said.

In response to Biden’s placing Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of the administration’s response, Miller referred to her as “Mrs. Open Borders.”
