Biden finally speaks up on Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal; the governor will be pleased

President Joe Biden broke his silence on Governor Andrew Cuomo on Sunday but refused to call for his resignation until he sees the determination of the independent investigation into his sexual harassment allegations.

Biden, who has been close to Cuomo for a long time, has remained silent on the governor’s scandals until now. When a reporter on the White House South Lawn shouted a question about Cuomo at the president, he finally addressed the issue… briefly. The reaction from Biden comes as a number of high-profile Democrats are now calling for Cuomo’s resignation following a seventh alleged victim stepping forward.

When asked if Biden was in consensus with other Democrats that Cuomo should step down, the president bluntly stated, “I think the investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us.”

Biden is in the minority concerning Cuomo, it would seem. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appears to be the only other powerful Democrat to insist on waiting to see New York’s attorney general’s report on Cuomo before passing judgment. She said he “must look inside his heart” to determine whether or not he should resign. Both of New York’s Democratic Senators, Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer, have locked arms with New York Democratic Reps. Jerry Nadler and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in their calls for Cuomo to resign.

Pelosi hypocritically stated on Sunday that she has “zero tolerance” for sexual harassment. But when it comes to Cuomo she is adopting a wait-and-see stance.

New York Attorney General Letitia James started the ball rolling on investigating Cuomo’s sexual harassment allegations. While denying all charges and refusing to vacate his office, Cuomo said he would “fully cooperate” with the investigation. The governor bristled during a press call last week and adamantly stated that he “did not do what has been alleged.”

Cuomo is in deep trouble and even his staff knows it. They are reportedly not showing up for work over the scandal.

“I hear that most people aren’t even coming into work, and the offices at the Capitol are empty,” said one source.

“He’ll fight and fight and fight, but the staffers I’ve talked to are ready for him to hang up the gloves. Everyone feels like there is an inevitable conclusion — I mean at some point will Biden call on him to step down? They [staffers] just want this torture to stop,” the insider added.

Close to 90 percent of New York’s congressional delegation is reportedly now calling for Cuomo’s resignation or impeachment. They are joined by more than 80 percent of state senators. The State Assembly has now opened a probe with full subpoena power into Cuomo’s handling of the pandemic in connection to nursing homes and into his sexual misconduct allegations. That is widely seen as the first step towards impeachment.

Over the weekend, former Cuomo aide Lindsey Boylan, who was the first to step forward against the governor, tweeted out a condemnation of both the president and the vice-president over their silence concerning Cuomo. That tweet has since been deleted.

“The governor has denied all wrongdoing,” Boylan tweeted. “He got on his platform today and said ‘there are many motivations of why people do things.’ He is calling up hate and speculation to be directed to his accusers. All harm and hate directed at the women sits squarely on @NYGovCuomo.”

Boylan later tweeted, “It also calls into question the judgment and courage of both @POTUS and @KamalaHarris.” That second tweet was also deleted.

White House chief of staff Ron Klain stated on Sunday evening that the investigation into Cuomo’s actions, “ought to run its course.”

“What the President said is that there’s a process. These charges are very serious charges. They ought to be investigated and that process ought to run its course,” Klain stated. He later added that the women leveling the allegations, “have a right to be heard.”

The response on Twitter nailed it:
