After “Good Morning Britain” host Piers Morgan severed ties with the show over comments he made concerning Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, he doubled down by saying that he still does not believe Markle.
After a heated exchange with weatherman Alex Beresford, Morgan stormed off the set of the show on Tuesday as Beresford called him “diabolical” for his trashing of Markle. He would return later to further debate the subject with Beresford, but after more than 40,000 complaints to the network over his comments referring to Markle’s accusations of Royal Family racism and bullying, Morgan resigned from the show.
On Wednesday, Morgan tweeted to address the situation and to stare down his critics over free speech. The whole mess did little to change his mind concerning Markle and Morgan seems to have no regrets over leaving the show.
“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview,” he tweeted. “I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

Included in the tweet was a picture of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill and one of his timeless quotes: “Some people’s idea of [free speech] is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage.”
“I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle,” Morgan declared on “Good Morning Britain.”
“I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report and that fact that she fired up this onslaught against our royal family, I think is contemptible,” he said.
On Tuesday, Morgan tweeted: “Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight. He’d have told me to do exactly the same thing. @GMB #TrustYourGut.”

Morgan had finally had enough on the show after co-host Beresford told him, “I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”
“Okay, I’m done with this, sorry, no, sorry … see you later, sorry, can’t do this,” Morgan said as he stormed off the set of the show.
Later, ITV would announce that Morgan had severed ties with them. Although he officially resigned, the network had indicated earlier in the day that they had not ruled out firing Morgan over the Markle remarks.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” ITV stated. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.” Morgan was with the network for six years.
The United Kingdom’s Office of Communications (Ofcom) is now investigating Morgan for his comments under its “harm and offence rules.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper is calling the investigation “insanity.” He tweeted: “This is what happens when you live in a country where there is no First Amendment. Insanity.”
Tapper also stated: “Governments should have no role in policing news broadcasts. You can tweet Piers what you think of his comments, that’s not what this is about.”

The CNN host would go on to state that he found Morgan’s comments offensive, but he still doesn’t believe a government-empowered agency should be investigating free speech.
I personally found what he said offensive and wrong. His former employer obviously didn’t approve and that’s its decision to make.

Tapper went on to tweet, “I’m sorry for journalists who don’t enjoy the same freedoms we do.”
“The Mirror” spoke with Morgan outside his London home on Wednesday. Morgan stated: “I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree.”
“I’m just going to take it easy and see how we go,” he noted.
“I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right,” Morgan posited.
“I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible,” he brutally commented.
“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out within that interview, so be it,” he added.
He went on: “I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve canceled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.”
“I would call it a temporary hibernation,” Morgan concluded.
