Piers Morgan stomps off set when co-host calls him out for ‘diabolical’ Meghan Markle criticism

Co-host Piers Morgan stormed off the set of “Good Morning Britain” after getting into a heated argument with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Beresford excoriated Morgan over his “absolutely diabolical behavior” towards Markle. That tore it for Morgan who proclaimed, “OK. I’m done with this. Sorry. No. Sorry. You can trash me mate, but not on my own show,” as he furiously stomped off camera.

Morgan took offense to Markle’s Winfrey interview and her insinuations of racism thrown at the Royal Family. He called her comments irresponsible over her allegations that someone in the Royal Family was questioning her baby’s skin color.

Beresford accused Morgan of being miffed because Markle had cut him off after stating that the “Good Morning Britain” co-host had a “personal relationship with Meghan Markle” in the past. Beresford attacked Morgan with abandon: “And I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or you had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has and yet you continue to trash her.” After that bit of for-show slander, Morgan exited stage right.

Beresford then added, “This is absolutely diabolical behavior” of Morgan, noting “I’m sorry, but Piers spouts off on a regular basis, and we all have to sit there and listen. 6:30 to 7:00 yesterday was incredibly hard to watch.”

Previously, the weatherman had alluded to Morgan being somewhat obsessed with Markle: “I understand you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, a number of times.”

At the end of the segment, Morgan’s co-host said that they all needed a break. Some wondered if the whole thing was a PR stunt.

Morgan would later return and tell Beresford they needed “to talk to each other in a civilized manner given we work at the same show on the same team.”

“You launching into a pretty personally derogatory monologue on one of your colleagues isn’t probably one of the best ways to go about it,” Morgan contended. “As much as I’d like to sit here taking abuse from you for hours on end, that’s not going to happen.”

“I’m not trying to come on this show and take you down, tear you apart,” Beresford retorted. “Just because we’re on the same side, doesn’t mean we have to have the same view.”

“This whole situation is very personal for me and I’m by no way, shape, or form accusing you of being a racist,” he stated. “I have the luxury of knowing you on and off-screen and we’ve had conversations, I know where you stand on this and I have a great amount of respect for you, Piers.”

On Monday’s segment of the show, Morgan began by repeatedly suggesting that Prince Harry had “spray-gunned” the Royal Family with accusations in the interview. Morgan felt it was “so disloyal.”

“He’s been spray-gunning his entire family on global TV as Prince Philip lies in hospital,” declared Morgan.

“I see right through them,” he said and then added, “Prince Charles has been bankrolling that couple for the last five years.”

Then Morgan blamed America for the actions of the actress: “America is trashing our country and trashing our monarchy now.”

Morgan allegedly accused Markle of lying and acting and playing the victim. He scoffed at her proclaimed mental issues and her accusations of racism.

“Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report,” Morgan said.

“The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal Family I think is contemptible,” he added.

He also tweeted a reference to Markle as the “Pinocchio Princess.”

ITV CEO Carolyn McCall stated that network executives spoke to Morgan about his behavior. “I haven’t spoken to Piers myself, but managing director, media and entertainment Kevin Lygo, ITV’s top programmer, had,” McCall added. “I know Kevin Lygo is speaking to him on a regular basis and has done so the last couple of days.”

She was asked if Morgan would lose his job over the dustup. McCall said: “We are dealing with that as we speak” and “I’m not making any comments on this.”

Social media and mental health advocates hammered Morgan for his attack on Markle.

Morgan and Markle started out by exchanging Twitter DMs and meeting for a drink in 2015. On “The Late Late Show,” Morgan recounted his version of events that night, “We had two hours in the pub, she had a couple of dirty martinis and pints – we got on brilliantly.”

He continued: “Then I put her in a cab, and it turns out it was the cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry. The next night they had a solo dinner and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle. I never heard from her again – Meghan Markle ghosted me.”

UPDATE: Piers Morgan is officially leaving “Good Morning Britain” after his blowup with Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey and his related commentary.

Mediaite scored a statement from British outlet ITV, which broadcasts the show. They announced that Morgan is leaving the program.

“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” the statement read. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

Just before the announcement, Morgan tweeted out a ticking clock.
