VP Harris under fire, remains mum as Biden admin set to re-open detention center for kids she railed against

The Biden administration, of which Vice President Kamala Harris is a prominent part, is reportedly reopening a for-profit detention facility for illegal aliens that VP had made a big show of complaining about less than two years ago.

Based in Homestead, Florida, the facility attracted widespread condemnation from the left during the height of the illegal alien crisis in 2019.

At the time, then-Sen. Harris and other Democrats traveled to the facility to claim that the detention of illegal alien children was a “human rights abuse” that needed to be halted.

Watch:

Then-Sen. Harris also vowed to “end all for-profit detention centers” if she were elected to office as president.

Look:

Now, while she wasn’t elected to office as president, she certainly was elected as vice president, meaning she ought to have at least some pull, right?

Yet as of Thursday, there were no reports about Harris pushing back on the Biden administration’s reopening plan. Nor had she tweeted about it.

This fact isn’t sitting well with those among the Democrat Party base who’d expected the Democrats they’d voted for to actually stick to their word.

Look:

None of this is to suggest that the policy of detaining illegal alien children (as well as adults) is morally wrong. The Trump administration pursued the policy because illegals can’t simply be released into the country, lest America become an open-borders nation.

The difference is that, one, the Trump administration didn’t act hypocritically like the Biden administration is now. And two, the Biden administration benefits from a media that’s hellbent on covering and protecting its every move.

In fact, The Washington Post published a veritable puff piece Monday about one Trump-era “camp” for illegal alien children that’s been reopened by the Biden administration because of the flood of illegal aliens pouring across the border.

The Post spent the majority of the piece describing the camp, which is comprised of a bunch of large trailers, with some of the most complimentary words seen in years.

“The most colorful trailer is at the entryway, where flowers, butterflies and handmade posters still hang on its walls from Carrizo’s first opening in 2019,” one sentence reads.

Take a look at one of the fun, little trailers below:

The reality is that the Biden administration’s actions toward illegals have often, though not always, mirrored those of the Trump administration.

The primary difference is that President Joe Biden is rolling back the policies put in place by former President Donald Trump to reduce the flow of illegals across the border, meaning in effect that he’s only making it so that even more cages will be needed.

“Biden is also ending Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ program for Central American asylum seekers, which took pressure off the border. Which leaves two choices: Just let ’em in, or hold ’em in a temporary facility while you process their immigration claims. A problem entirely of Biden’s making,” the New York Post’s editorial board argues.

“So while we feel Trump was wrongly vilified for these facilities, Biden deserves every knock of hypocrisy leveled against him.”

And so does his VP.
