‘You guys would be great in a bar’: Bill Hemmer quells morning battle between Matt Schlapp and Trump-hating Dem

Fox News host Bill Hemmer attempted to quell a verbal fight between American Conservative Union Chair Matt Schlapp and Democratic strategist Chris Hahn on Wednesday over immigration, telling them, “You guys would be great in a bar.”

The altercation was over the detention of illegal alien children after the Biden administration just opened its first detention center in Carrizo Springs, Texas called the Influx Care Facility. It is comprised of trailers that look like shipping containers with bars on the windows. It can potentially house up to 700 children.

“It is important we take the right steps to make sure people come to this country legally, and the fact is the way the law reads right now, Joe Biden has, actually, no choice but to separate those kids if he is to follow the law, just like Donald Trump had no choice,” Schlapp asserted on “America’s Newsroom” Wednesday. “We deserve a big apology from the Biden administration and all those supporters who said that was racist.”

Hahn took offense to Schlapp’s demand and angrily fired back: “I just listened to Matt say that the former guy [Trump] deserves an apology for separating kids from their parents, ripping them from their arms sometimes. And if they didn’t do that, they sent them to Mexico where they were exploited and some even died. The former guy’s policy on immigration was ridiculous.” It got even more incendiary after that exchange.

The Democrat loyalist then went after the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC). The 4-day conservative confab starts on Thursday and runs through Sunday in Orlando, Florida. Former President Trump is expected to headline the event.

“If conservatives are serious about fixing the problem, CPAC should spend less time on the big lie this weekend and more time talking about the 2013 Immigration Reform Act which had bipartisan support in the Senate and should be passed now by Congress,” Hahn proclaimed.

Schlapp was not about to sit still over Hahn’s denigrating references. “When Chris criticizes this idea that minors are separated from adults — remember, we have no proof that they’re their parents in most of these cases — he is criticizing Barack Obama who bought those cages, opened these facilities, and did the very same thing.”

Hahn exploded over that assertion and reiterated the “big lie” slur: “They’ve got seven sessions on the big lie that led to an insurrection, and they’re calling the Democratic Party anti-constitutional. Please, spare me your indignation, Matt, and get with the program! Acknowledge that Joe Biden was president at the beginning of CPAC so the American people can move on from the big lie that your featured speaker will be talking about all weekend.”

The verbal fisticuffs went on for some time and then Hahn invoked the topic of a Delaware man who was allegedly caught using the names of his deceased mother and mother-in-law to vote. He then threw a final smear at Schlapp: “The only illegal vote was cast by a Republican by his dead mom!”

Bill Hemmer had been trying unsuccessfully to end the heated exchange. He finally cut in and admonished the two men who were still going at it with emphasis on Hahn’s last jab, “Whoa! Hey now, hey now. You guys would be great in a bar, but not at 10 in the morning.”

That elicited a laugh of sorts and ended the face-off but not the apparent animosity between the two politically opposed commentators.
