Jim Jordan slams Dems for conveniently omitting ‘peacefully and patriotically’ portion of Trump’s speech

Rep. Jim Jordan on Wednesday accused Democratic House impeachment managers of purposely leaving out a portion of then-President Donald Trump’s Jan. 6 speech where he told supporters to “peacefully and patriotically” protest Congress’ electoral vote count certifying Joe Biden as the new president.

The Ohio Republican was reacting to video footage of the former president’s rally, presented by impeachment managers during the second day of proceedings, that was selectively edited to leave out what he and other Trump defenders say is the most relevant portion of the speech.

Instead, impeachment managers have repeatedly shown a passage where Trump urged supporters to “fight like hell” as they attempt to get the former president convicted on a single charge of “inciting an insurrection.”

Jordan, in an interview with Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.” noted that Trump also told rally-goers to march to the Capitol to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” which he explained does not fit the narrative Democrats are presenting as they seek to convict.

“The defense team, they got the main point across which is, the Democrats are trying to cancel the guy that 74 million Americans voted for,” Jordan began.

“They tried to remove [Trump] from office before he got that, now they’re trying to remove him after he’s left,” said the Ohio Republican after describing Democrats as being “obsessed” with Trump.

“The one line from the president’s speech that wasn’t in the Democrats’ video is the line that’s most important, and that’s where the president said, ‘peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” Jordan added.

In addition, Save America PAC’s Trump War Room Twitter account posted a screengrab of a September 2020 tweet by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the House’s lead impeachment manager, in which he used the phrase “fight like hell” in relation to an alleged GOP “assault on health care and the Constitution.”

Newsmax reported that example is just one of four instances identified by the Trump War Room in which Raskin used the phrase “fight like hell” or the word “fight” in urging supporters to action.

Later, during an appearance with Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) on Fox News’ “Hannity,” Jordan went on to explain “facts” and “principles” regarding Trump’s second impeachment and the Capitol Building riot that never change and have yet to be refuted by Democrats.

“Four principles — this is unconstitutional, there was no due process afforded the president” during the House impeachment push, “this does grave harm to your First Amendment free speech rights, and…it doesn’t unify the country as Joe Biden said he wanted to do just a couple of weeks ago,” Jordan said.

As to “four facts that never change,” Jordan continued, “How did the president incite a breach of the Capitol when the FBI knew ahead of time this was preplanned? When pipe bombs were found ahead of time, before the president even had the rally? When Capitol Police asked for additional help — they asked for the National Guard to be there, and when the president specifically said…maybe most important, specifically said, ‘peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.’”

“Those things are fundamental and the American people, I think, instinctively understand those key concepts and key facts,” Jordan added.
