A Chicago man who was cast as the “Census Cowboy” by Democrat mayor Lori Lightfoot has been charged with felony animal cruelty after allegedly whipping and kicking his exhausted, injured horse during a seven-mile “social-justice” ride on a highway.
The horse that Adam Hollingsworth rode was not equipped with shoes or properly saddled when Hollingsworth forced it to gallop for miles to protest gun violence, according to assistant state attorney Kevin Deboni.

Prosecutors say Adam Hollingsworth — who calls himself the “Dreadhead Cowboy” — rode the horse, named NuNu, nearly to death on September 21.
One horse veterinarian said forcing NuNu to run on a highway for seven miles is like forcing an 80-year-old woman to run a full marathon.

Veterinarians who examined NuNu said it suffered severe injuries to its hoofs and got sores under its saddle, which wasn’t properly padded.
Prosecutors say the horse remains in critical condition and may need to be euthanized, Fox 6 reported.
Authorities found NuNu collapsed on the pavement and said it was “overheated, dehydrated, bleeding from the hooves, and with eyes so dilated they resembled “cartoon eyes.'” Veterinarians noted that the horse’s heart was racing at twice its normal rate.
Cook County assistant state’s attorney Kevin Deboni said NuNu collapsed at one point during the ride, but Hollingsworth repeatedly whipped and kicked it to keep it moving.
Deboni added that in June, Hollingsworth had posted a Facebook video bragging that “he’s going to ride his horse til it dies.”
Deboni remarked that NuNu “will never be deemed suitable to ride again. And euthanasia may be utilized for humane reasons due to the suffering the animal will likely endure for the rest of its life.”
Prosecutors charged Hollingsworth with animal cruelty, reckless conduct, trespass to state land, and traffic violations.
The Chicago Alliance for Animals launched a petition to save NuNu and to “never allow Adam Hollingsworth…to own a horse or any animal again.”
Two veterinarians who examined NuNu said it “suffered greatly and bled profusely.” They added that NuNu repeatedly collapsed while it was being treated for its numerous injuries.
Amazingly, Hollingsworth denied the animal-cruelty charges and said he’d do it again.
“Would I do it again? Yes I’d do it again!” he told reporters. “I’ve been in jail. I had a [criminal] background. I’m not perfect. That was something worth going to jail for.”

Hollingsworth then begged Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot to rescue him. “Lori, come help me,” he pleaded.
In a surprising turn of events, Lightfoot responded by issuing a statement scolding Hollingsworth and slamming his cruel “stunt.”
“This stunt not only seriously endangered the horse, but also the rider and all travelers on the expressway,” Lightfoot said. “There is a right way and a wrong way to call attention to issues of great importance, and this stunt was decidedly the very wrong way.”
