Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot defies Trump’s call to reopen churches, calls him ‘dangerous and foolish’

Lori Lightfoot ordered house arrest for everyone else, but broke her own lockdown orders by getting her hair done at a stylist’s house.

Democrat Lori Lightfoot, the left-wing mayor of Chicago, trashed President Trump’s call to reopen churches and other houses of worship, saying it’s “dangerous and foolish.”

Lightfoot was reacting to President Trump’s remarks that “We’ve got to get our churches open.”

Lightfoot wants churches to remain shut down until at least next month.

“[Trump] has said so many dangerous and foolish things,” Lightfoot told reporters Friday. “Add this to the list.”

Mayor Lightfoot then claimed that religious leaders in Chicago support her move to keep churches locked down.

However, religious leaders on Chicago’s South Side praised President Trump’s call to reopen churches, and urged Lightfoot and Illinois’ Democrat governor J.B. Pritzker to stop politicizing the lockdowns and let them worship in peace.

Pervis Thomas is the pastor of New Canaan Land Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. He said he plans to hold services today while exercising proper precautions.

“We are all going to social distance,” Pastor Thomas said. “We are going to sanitize when we can. We have masks prepared. The elderly are going to stay home. The sick, those that are [immuno]-compromised, diabetics, those with hypertension, are going to stay home. We just want to just worship freely.”

On Friday, President Trump urged governors to reopen churches, saying “it’s not right” to allow liquor stores and abortion clinics to stay open during the coronavirus lockdowns while closing churches.

Many people wonder why murdering babies and buying beer is considered “essential” while going to church is considered non-essential.

Reminder: There is no “pandemic exception” to the United States Constitution.

President Trump said: “Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential [but not churches]. It’s not right. So I’m correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential. These are places that hold our society together and keep our people united.”

Trump continued: “The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, for this weekend. If they don’t do it, I will override the governors. We’ve got to get our churches open.”

Meanwhile, Chicago’s health department vowed to increase penalties for church pastors who hold in-person services, calling religious gatherings a “public health nuisance.”

Reminder: While Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot ordered strict lockdowns for her city and banned religious gatherings, she hypocritically violated the mandate by going to her hairstylist to get her hair done.

Lightfoot defended herself by saying she’s “the face of this city” who needs to look good for her fans. So it’s okay that she broke her own rules while fining other Chicago residents $500 for violating her indefinite stay-at-home orders.
