Fox News’ Harris Faulkner tried to avoid another awkward on-air segment and reprimanded Jessica Tarlov after a heated exchange.
The “Outnumbered” co-host struggled for a moment to regain control of a panel discussion Monday on President Donald Trump’s plans to nominate a new justice to the Supreme Court following last week’s death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Faulkner scolded Tarlov after an interrupted debate between the Fox News contributor and co-host Melissa Francis.
When the discussion on Monday’s show turned to federal appellate court judge Amy Coney Barrett, one of Trump’s likely nominees for the high court, Francis remarked that “it just astonishes me and amazes me the lengths to which Democrats are willing to go” to fight the president on the Supreme Court issue.
She noted the latest attacks by Democrats in response to Trump’s plan to move forward to fill Ginsburg’s empty seat before the November election, as they have threatened to pack the Supreme Court if they take control of the White House and the Senate. There has even been talk of impeaching the president – again.

Francis pointed out that another area of attack is on the nominees themselves and their religious beliefs, turning to how Barrett’s conservative and religious views have sparked renewed scrutiny from the left. She then pointed to the 2017 confirmation hearing during which Senator Dianne Feinstein questioned Barrett about how her Catholic beliefs may influence her professional and legal decisions.
Recounting how the California Democrat had told Barrett that “the dogma lives loudly within you,” Francis remarked that “it’s amazing that she gets attacked based on religion, and you can only do that to Christian women.”
“If it was a Muslim woman or a devout Jewish woman and you said ‘the dogma lives loudly within you,’ you would be called a xenophobe or an anti-Semite,” Francis added. “But for some reason, you’re really allowed to go and vilify Christians.”
Faulkner questioned Francis about Feinstein’s words but Tarlov attempted to clarify with some context, breaking in before Francis could respond.
“I know we need to move on —,” she said.
“Let Melissa answer the question,” Faulkner requested, but Tarlov continued to press the point she was making.
“Jessica, I need for you to let her answer the question,” Faulkner repeated as the women talked over each other for a moment.
“This has happened to me twice already in the last two weeks, and I need to know if she can hear me. Right now. Can you hear me?” Faulkner asked, apparently making a reference to last week’s awkward “Outnumbered” segment with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
When Gingrich brought up how billionaire progressive activist Soros was providing the money that helped fuel many of the riots that erupted across U.S. cities in the last few months following the death of George Floyd, Francis and co-host Marie Harf shut him down, claiming Soros “doesn’t need to be a part of this conversation.”
Faulkner eventually cut in to get the segment to “move on” but apologized for the flap on the air the next day.

Francis eventually finished answering the question Faulkner had posed, noting the “outrageous lengths that these sitting politicians will go to in order to stop the process here at the Supreme Court.”
Faulkner then turned to Tarlov to go ahead with her comments, but with an added admonishment.
“All right, Jessica, always with respect, we just don’t do that to each other. It causes all sorts of problems when we do that,” she said. “Please, go ahead and say your piece.”
Tarlov went on to argue that Feinstein was not attacking Christians when she made her “dogma” comment but was supposedly making the point that the law of the land should be “supreme” over one’s religious convictions.
” This is not about attacking Christians, it’s about attacking someone or saying someone is unfit for the job because they do not believe that law is supreme to everything else, which is what we need in a jurist to make sure that they are fair to all Americans,” she said.
“All right. What we do know is that we will never know that,” Faulkner concluded the segment. “And that is your opinion. As always, that is what we are free to express here on “Outnumbered.'”
