Actress Kirstie Alley joins a growing chorus of Americans who are disgusted by the Academy Awards’ new affirmative-action policy that requires movies to meet racial “diversity” requirements before they can be considered for awards.
Numerous people on both the political left and the right warned that the new “wokeness” will degrade the quality of movies because artistic merit is being subordinated to political correctness.
Beginning in 2024, the Academy is limiting Best Picture award nominees to films that “encourage equitable representation on and off screen.”
This means that people of color must be hired both on and off the set, which means minorities must be cast as lead actors and as interns and production staff.
Kirstie Alley slammed the Oscars’ affirmative-action policy by remarking: “I’ve been in the Motion Picture Academy for 40 years. The Academy celebrates freedom of UNBRIDLED artistry expressed through movies. The new RULES to qualify for “best picture” are dictatorial and anti-artist. Hollywood you’re swinging so far left you’re bumping into your own *ss.”

Alley added: “This is a disgrace to artists everywhere. Can you imagine telling Picasso what had to be in his f***ing paintings? You people have lost your minds!”
After being viciously dragged on Twitter by a left-wing mob, Alley backtracked.
She said: “I deleted my first tweet about the new rules for Best Movie Oscars because I feel it was a poor analogy and misrepresented my viewpoint. I am 100% behind diversity inclusion and tolerance. I’m opposed to MANDATED ARBITRARY percentages relating to hiring human beings in any business.”

Actor Kevin Sorbo said if the Oscars are now forced to be more “diverse,” then the NBA and NFL should also draft people of all athletic abilities in the name of racial diversity.
Sorbo tweeted: “Now if you could change the NBA and NFL and get more diversity in there as well. It’s not about just having the best athletes anymore. We need people of all races and levels of talent playing professionally.”

Reminder: The 2020 winner for Best Picture Oscar was the South Korean film “Parasite,” which featured an all-Korean cast and production staff.
A self-described “fierce liberal” said the entertainment industry is virtue-signaling itself into total irrelevance.

Most Americans are aware that affirmative-action hiring and racial quotas are mandated in college admissions and in every major industry. It has been this way for decades now.
Interestingly, the BET Awards have not been forced to expand their racial diversity. Nor have the ESPY Awards (for sports excellence).
Why aren’t leftists demanding that awards shows in Africa, the Mideast and Asia include more white actors and production staff?
Garbage collectors in the America are 76% white. But no one is demanding more racial diversity in this industry. Why? Because race-baiting grievance mongers don’t whine for quotas in “undesirable” industries/fields. That tells you all you need to know about race-hustling leftists.
In 2019, Kirstie Alley slammed Hollywood for pushing forced racial diversity while squelching diversity of viewpoints.
Specifically, Alley pointed out that left-wing Hollywood has blacklisted conservatives for years.
