Biden can’t seem to get his story straight on Flynn probe, flip-flops within days

There are two arguable reasons as to why former Vice President Joe Biden remains the Democrat Party’s presumptive choice to run against President Donald Trump in November.

One, Democratic operatives are salivating at the opportunity to use Biden’s apparently declining mental state to their advantage and rule from the shadows while he remains a ‘figurehead’ president.

And two, the God-awful ‘mainstream media’ is continuing to help prop him up, as evidenced by nearly every single interview with him.

Thursday’s appearance on Lawrence O’Donnell’s MSNBC program is a case in point.

Earlier in the week, Biden was asked on ABC’s “Good Morning America” about the Michael Flynn case, telling host George Stephanopoulos that he was aware “they had asked for an investigation” — meaning the Obama administration of which he was a part.

The admission came after it was revealed he was one of dozens of Obama-era officials who requested Flynn be unmasked. And, it should be noted, Biden’s request came on January 12, 2017, the same day that Washington Post reporter David Ignatius reported on Flynn’s conversations with a Russian diplomat — information he could never have gotten unless it was leaked to him.

During a virtual town hall on O’Donnell’s program Thursday, Biden denied he had any knowledge of a “criminal” probe into Flynn.

“The issue of people wanting the attorney general to resign is over the Michael Flynn case where the attorney general is basically trying to drop the case as a federal judge questioning how that case is being dropped. Mr. Vice President, what was your involvement in the investigation of Michael Flynn and the FBI investigation of Michael Flynn?” O’Donnell asked.

“I was never a part, or had any knowledge, of any criminal investigation into Flynn while I was in office, period. Not one single time,” Biden claimed, incredibly.

Needless to say, O’Donnell let Biden’s response stand unchallenged, without a follow-up question asking why the two answers appeared to conflict. And never mind that Biden’s name was on the intelligence document released by acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell listing all the people who sought to unmask — identify — Flynn.

During his interview with Stephanopoulos, initially Biden said he knew “nothing” about any effort to investigate Flynn, and was only forced to admit he’d known something about it when the ABC host pressed him about a Jan. 5, 2017 meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office with several other officials in which Flynn’s probe was discussed.

“No, I thought you asked me whether or not I had anything to do with him being prosecuted. I’m sorry,” Biden said. “I was aware that there was — that they had asked for an investigation. But that’s all I know about it and I don’t think anything else.”

Flynn had been under investigation by the FBI long before Jan. 5. That said, the bureau wanted to shut it down by then but was prevented from doing so by then-top FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok.

Biden’s “criminal investigation” response may also be misleading. When FBI agents went to the White House to talk to Flynn Jan. 24, they weren’t conducting a criminal probe but rather trying to set him up in a perjury trap, as has been revealed in recent days.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) believes Biden has been caught “red-handed” in the Flynn unmasking scandal and as such ought to be called to testify before Congress under oath about his alleged role in it.

“Yesterday I sent a letter to Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell concerning the declassification of which Obama administration officials asked to unmask Gen. Flynn,” Paul said. “Today I received the shocking answer that Vice President Biden and more than a dozen Obama administration officials requested and received the power to unmask Gen. Flynn during his phone call with the Russian ambassador…Why is this important? Unmasking involves revealing the identity of the American’s private phone conversation without a constitutional warrant.”

WATCH:

“This is Vice President Biden using the spying powers of the United States to go after a political opponent. He’s caught red-handed here. Vice President Biden is caught red-handed eavesdropping on a political opponent’s phone calls. That to me is alarming,” he added.
