Fox News anchor Bret Baier accused the FBI of trying to “create a crime” in the investigation of former national security advisor, Michael Flynn.
With the release of damning unsealed FBI notes showing Flynn was essentially framed in a perjury trap set up by the agency, Baier called out former FBI Director James Comey for the obvious attempt to “set up” the retired general.

Speaking with Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer on Thursday, the “Special Report” host noted that the release of unsealed notes between top FBI agents was “significant” as it showed there was a blatant effort to get the former Trump adviser either prosecuted or fired.
“You have these documents that show what the FBI was doing with these agents going to interview the national security advisor, Michael Flynn, and what Jim Comey talked about, about setting all of that up,” Baier said on “Bill Hemmer Reports” Thursday.
“In these new documents, ‘Crossfire Razor’ … it essentially says that they’re going to set up this questioning, not telling him what it’s really about, in the hopes that either you get the truth or you get him to lie and you get him fired,” Baier said.
He then quoted criminal defense lawyer and law professor, Jonathan Turley, who said: “I’ve been a criminal defense attorney for decades. I’ve seen abusive tactics. However, this one is one of the most thuggish records I have seen. Most concerning is that they were trying to create a crime, not investigating a crime.”
A video clip was played of Comey speaking with MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace in December 2018 about how he sent FBI agents to the White House to interrogate an unsuspecting Flynn.
“It’s something I probably wouldn’t have done or maybe gotten away within a more organized administration,” Comey boasted at the time. “If the FBI wanted to send agents into the White House itself to interview a senior official, you would work through the White House counsel, and there would be discussions and approvals, and who would be there. And I thought it’s early enough, let’s just send a couple guys over.”

“I think it does take a different tone as you listen back to that,” Baier told Hemmer. “It can be characterized as a setup.”
“Some analysts are saying this is what happens, but it’s not really what happens in the big scheme of things if you look at what happened to Michael Flynn and all the coverage after that moment and all he’s dealt with since,” Baier added.
Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan railed against Comey and his “arrogance and ego” in a “Fox & Friends” interview.
“There was process, they should have notified the White House Counsel that they were coming over to talk to Michael Flynn. They weren’t square with Gen. Flynn, a guy who served our country, a three-star general. It is so wrong what they did, and the arrogance that Comey has,” the House Oversight Committee ranking member said, adding that, “if they can do it to a president of the United States, imagine what they can do to you and I.”
