Hospitals hoard hydroxychloroquine, the malaria drug that cured coronavirus in French study

Hospitals have begun stockpiling hydroxychloroquine, a decades-old anti-malaria drug that showed a 100% cure rate against the coronavirus in a 36-patient French study.

Soumi Saha, a healthcare industry executive, said even wholesale distribution channels have completely sold out their hydroxychloroquine supply.

“We’re seeing hoarding as hospitals are very concerned that they have access to the right drugs,” Saha told Bloomberg. “In merely 17 days, U.S. hospitals purchased more chloroquine than they did in all of last year.”

Bloomberg reported:

“Hydroxychloroquine is being snapped up by medical systems at more than twice the typical pace as U.S. hospitals seek to build large inventories in anticipation of the medication’s potential use in patients with Covid-19, the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus.

From March 1 through March 17, U.S. hospitals bought an average of 16,110 units of hydroxychloroquine, compared with an average 8,800 units a month from January 2019 through February 2020, according to Premier Inc., which helps 4,000 member hospitals buy and manage their supplies.”

Sadly, hospitals are forced to stockpile hydroxychloroquine because other medical supplies (like face masks) are in short supply after they were hoarded by the general public amid the coronavirus hysteria.

President Trump has expressed optimism over a French doctor’s 36-patient study that found a 100% cure rate using a malaria drug to treat the coronavirus.

The left-wing media (like MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow) attacked Trump for saying he feels optimistic about the drug.

However, the President underscored that scientists must continue to run tests on larger groups to confirm if the malaria drug can be useful for combating the coronavirus.

“It may work, it may not work. But I feel good about it,” President Trump said. “That’s all it is, it’s just a feeling. I feel good about it. You’re going to see soon enough.”

Reminder: If the Left doesn’t peddle doom and gloom, they have no chance to win back the White House in November. Accordingly, they want to foment mass public hysteria (which also boosts their TV ratings) — even if it means spreading disinformation and fueling anxiety among Americans.

Dr. Mehmet Oz is a Harvard-educated cardiologist. Dr. Oz said the upcoming study from Aix-Marseille Université researching the malaria drug to combat the coronavirus could be a game-changer, so he’s cautiously optimistic.

“I’m optimistic, and I think Dr. Fauci is too,” Dr. Oz told Fox Business’ David Asman. “But he’s doing what a good scientist would do, which is [to be skeptical but hopeful].”

Dr. Oz continued:  “In this study, they shortened the amount of time the patients extruded the virus to six days. The norm is approaching 20 days. That completely changes the behavior of the virus. Which means that it may be actually more like a flu virus in its impact on us. It’s still dangerous but not as contagious.”

For now, Dr. Oz urges everyone to wash their hands frequently and practice social distancing. Like President Trump and other top physicians, Dr. Oz says we will ultimately prevail over this scourge. So don’t freak out or lose hope.

On Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York State will start implementing the malaria drug to treat coronavirus this week.

Will unhinged leftists like Rachel Maddow and NBC News “reporter” Peter Alexander start yelling at Gov. Cuomo for giving New Yorkers “false hope?” Probably not, because he’s a Democrat.

Governor Cuomo praised President Trump for delivering hydroxychloroquine — a promising drug that could treat the coronavirus.

“The President ordered the FDA to move & the FDA moved!” Cuomo said. “There is a good basis to believe these [drugs] could work.”
