Some Manhattan street vendors are making a killing by selling real Christmas trees for as much as $6,500 for a 20-foot Fraser fir. Shockingly, the live trees are selling out like hotcakes.
Scott Lechner, a sales manager at the Soho Trees lot in downtown Manhattan, says he has been having an excellent season.
“A 20-footer will set you back about $6,500 including delivery and installation,” Lechner told the New York Post. “We’re sold out.”
The fact that New Yorkers are rabidly buying up overpriced trees (which are a luxury — not a necessity) underscores that the Trump economy is on fire.
The exorbitant prices for live Christmas trees this year is due to a shortage of the favored Fraser fir.
A few blocks away from Lechner’s spot, 20-foot trees sell for about $2,000. Most of the tall firs are purchased by residents of posh penthouses, or for use in building lobbies.
The average price for a normal-sized, 6-foot live tree is about $78.
Despite the shocking price hikes this year for 20-foot Fraser firs, demand is very robust.
“The demand is higher than ever,” said Harold DeLucia, the owner of Tyler’s Trees and NYC Trees, which charges $1,429 for a 16-foot Fraser. “Business has already surpassed profits from last year.”
While New Yorkers are going ga-ga for Fraser firs, President and First Lady Melania Trump chose a majestic Douglas fir as the official Christmas tree of the White House. The tree was delivered to the White House on November 25.
A week later, Melania unveiled the stunning 2019 White House Christmas decorations, whose patriotic theme is “The Spirit of America.”
Last week, President and Mrs. Trump participated in the 2019 annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Washington, D.C. In his remarks at the festive event, Trump said:
“In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge lit the first National Christmas Tree. Later that night, African American community centers held an outdoor worship service on these grounds. And during that service, the Washington Monument was illuminated with a beautiful cross, a powerful reminder of the meaning of Christmas.
More than 2,000 years ago, a brilliant star shone in the East. Wise men traveled far, far afield. And they came and they stood with us under the star, where they found the Holy Family in Bethlehem. As the Bible tells us, when the Wise Men “had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and fell down and worshiped him.”
Christians give thanks that the Son of God came into the world to save humanity. Jesus Christ inspires us to love one another with hearts full of generosity and grace.
We’re forever in debt to the brave veterans and service members. We applaud their noble service. There is nobody like them. They are an inspiration to us all. We also salute our incredible police and sheriffs, federal law enforcement, Secret Service, as well as our firefighters, paramedics, and first responders.
And at Christmas, we remember this eternal truth: Every person is a beloved child of God. As one grateful nation, we praise the joy of family, the blessings of freedom, and the miracle of Christmas.
