Billionaire Peter Thiel may find the nearly two dozen 2020 Democratic contenders “unimpressive” but one, in particular, has him “scared.”
The Trump-supporting Silicon Valley investor and co-founder of PayPal weighed in on the field of Democrats vying for the party’s 2020 nomination during an appearance on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Monday.

Thiel found that the one candidate who is talking about the economy, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, is the “dangerous one” among the group.
“I assume you’re watching the Democratic primaries unfold; who’s the most impressive candidate in that race, do you think?” Fox News host Tucker Carlson asked the billionaire investor who sits on the board of Facebook Inc.
“Well, I’m most scared by Elizabeth Warren,” Thiel replied.
“You know, I think she’s the one who’s actually talking about the economy, which is the only thing that I think — the thing that I think matters by far the most,” he explained.
Thiel had little to say about the rest of the uninspiring 2020 hopefuls.
“And then I think almost all the others are equally unimpressive in the sense that it’s all identity politics of one flavor or another, and I wouldn’t want to rank how unimpressive they are, since that would be forcing me to rank the different identities and which one’s more privileged and more special,” he told Carlson.
“And that would be a dangerous thing to get into,” he added, before concluding, “But I think Elizabeth Warren’s the dangerous one.”
Earlier, Thiel discussed comments he made Sunday during a speech at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, calling for an investigation of Google’s alleged ties with China.
“Number one, how many foreign intelligence agencies have infiltrated your Manhattan Project for AI (artificial intelligence)?” Thiel said during the speech, according to Axios. “Number two, does Google’s senior management consider itself to have been thoroughly infiltrated by Chinese intelligence? Number three, is it because they consider themselves to be so thoroughly infiltrated that they have engaged in the seemingly treasonous decision to work with the Chinese military and not with the US military.”
Google denied it has worked with the Chinese military but on Tuesday, President Trump announced that his administration would “take a look” into Google after the billionaire tech investor’s comments.
Artificial intelligence is something, “people talk about nonstop in Silicon Valley,” Thiel told Carlson Monday. “But they almost never talk about its dual-use.”
“If it’s real, if this is a real thing, it obviously can also be used by the military, it’ll be weaponized in all sorts of ways, and it’s an important national security question as to who has it,” he added.

Thiel, who supported Trump in 2016 and even spoke at the Republican National Convention ahead of the election that year, praised the president’s foreign policy, particularly the trade battle with China, during his speech Sunday, according to Bloomberg.
He also reportedly addressed Warren, who has called for the break up of big tech companies such as Google and Facebook.
Giant tech companies have too much power. My plan to #BreakUpBigTech prevents corporations like Amazon from knocking out the rest of the competition. You can be an umpire, or you can be a player—but you can’t be both. #WarrenTownHall pic.twitter.com/73y1002QVv

“Today’s big tech companies have too much power — too much power over our economy, our society, and our democracy. They’ve bulldozed competition, used our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field against everyone else. And in the process, they have hurt small businesses and stifled innovation,” Warren wrote in a blog post earlier this year.
“That’s why my Administration will make big, structural changes to the tech sector to promote more competition—including breaking up Amazon, Facebook, and Google,” she added.
