‘I’m incensed by this!’ Parents say teacher told daughter she could not choose President Trump as her hero for report

As bizarre is it may sound, anti-Trump bigotry appears to be spreading across the country. Last month a Florida bus driver ripped a “Make America Great Again” hat off a child’s head in rage. At the start of this month an anti-Trump zealot in California harassed and berated an elderly Starbucks supporter at a Starbucks. And according to the latest reports, last week a New York teacher prevented an 11-year-old student from choosing President Donald Trump as her hero for a class assignment.

If this isn’t bigotry, what is?

Meet Bella Moscato, an 11-year-old sixth grader at Samoset Middle School in Ronkonkoma who was assigned by an unnamed teacher to pick a hero to write a report about. For her, the choice was easy.

“Donald Trump is my hero,” she said to station News 12 Long Island.

But there was just one problem: her teacher.

Learn more below:

“She said that I wasn’t allowed to do Donald Trump because he spreads negativity and says bad stuff about women,” Bella explained. “The thing I didn’t get … she was OK with somebody doing Barack Obama, but not OK with me doing Donald Trump. That’s what got me angry. I didn’t like that.”

Neither did her parents.

“My daughter’s hero is the president of our country,” Bella’s father, Arthur Moscato, noted during a school district board meeting in the video above. “I can’t believe that anybody in this school would tell my daughter something that guy can’t be her hero. I’m incensed by this!”

His wife, Valerie Moscato, concurred.

“This was really frustrating to me,” she said to News 12. “My daughter has every right to do and pick a hero of her choice. It’s a First Amendment right, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, so it was really upsetting to me that she was trying to shut her down.”

Arthur and Valerie are equally aggravated over the school’s continued denial.

“It is not accurate that this student was told that they were not allowed to conduct research or report on any individual for a school assignment, including President Trump. To the best of our knowledge, by choice the student is still conducting their project of President Trump,” Sachem Central School District Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Graham said in a statement to News 12.

That’s not true, according to Bella’s parents, and the fact that Graham would suggest otherwise is an insult to their daughter, whom he’s essentially accused of being a liar.

“I’m incensed that my story was said to be unaccurate [SIC] by you. My story is not unaccurate [SIC]. My daughter didn’t lie. No one should make a child feel that way, and you’re supposed to protect my child,” Arthur said during the school district board meeting.

While the truth remains unclear, this isn’t the first instance of a teacher displaying virulently anti-Trump bias or bigotry. Last year a Georgia student recorded his sixth-grade teacher denouncing the president and claiming that he was “trying to bring back segregation.”

Fox News ran a report about it at the time. Listen:

Later in the year, a Florida English teacher penned a test question that labeled all conservatives and Republicans as “right-wing” monsters who embrace “bigotry, xenophobia, and sexism.”

“Right when it appeared the nation was becoming increasingly tolerant of alternative lifestyles, immigration, and minorities, the vocal and angry right-wing forced the nation to make a complete ________, embracing bigotry, xenophobia, and sexism,” the question read.

“The words that they used seemed to be very degrading words,” a St. Augustine High School student identified only as Logan said to Orlando station WKMG at the time.

Logan was reportedly a founding member of the school’s Republican club.

“I had to read it twice,” his mother added. “I was really surprised. Shocked. It leads people to believe that anyone who leans toward the right — they’re a sexist or racist or a bigot,” she said. “That happens a lot of times. We hear those kinds of things. We are not, and this doesn’t help.”

True.

For some reason, this sort of bigotry doesn’t concern liberal Democrats. Nor are they bothered by anti-Semitic bigotry and anti-Christian bigotry. If anything, they seem to welcome such bigotry.

In an ideal world, all bigotry would be condemned. But because this isn’t an ideal world, here’s how some among the left are tackling the anti-Trump bigotry experienced by Bella Moscato:

The last tweet that equated Bella with white nationalists was especially foul.

Sighs.

According to News 12, Bella chose Trump as her hero because “Donald Trump has helped millions of people by creating a great economy. He is fighting every day to protect the people from drugs crossing the border.”

FYI, those sound like terrific reasons!
