Five Democrat members of the Congressional Black Caucus took a lavish $60,000 trip to South Africa to see Beyoncé in concert, according to congressional disclosure records (see below). Amazingly, the politicians then tried to claim that the lobbyist-funded vacation was a humanitarian trip.

Leftist activist Al Sharpton tweeted a photo from the December 2018 concert, which included the following Democrat members of Congress:

  • Gregory Meeks of New York
  • Barbara Lee of California
  • Bobby Rush of Illinois,
  • Terri Sewell of Alabama
  • Hank Johnson of Georgia.

Al Sharpton and Oprah also Attended Concert

Also included in Al Sharpton’s photo was MSNBC host Joy Reid, who should be in jail for filing a false FBI report over her old homophobic blog posts..

The group attended “Global Citizen Mandela 100” concert from December 1-3 to commemorate the birthday of the late South African president, Nelson Mandela.

Global Citizen paid for the trip. Global Citizen is a left-wing nonprofit organization that lobbies for anti-poverty programs around the world.

Other celebrities who attended the star-studded event included Oprah Winfrey and “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.

‘This Was a Mockery of House Ethics Rules’

The National Legal and Policy Center, a watchdog group, called the trip a “mockery.”

“These members of Congress that were given an all-expense paid vacation to party with Oprah, Jay Z, and Beyoncé in South Africa are claiming with a straight face this was needed to help poor children around the world live better lives,” the NLPC’s Tom Anderson told the Washington Examiner.

“This was in fact a mockery of House ethics rules on gifts and travel, the truly poor, and all Americans that expect members of Congress to live not only by the letter of the law but by the spirit and intentions of the rules of the House of Representatives.”

The total cost of the lavish trip, including airfare, lodging, food and security, was $60,272.

Self-Dealing Sharpton Sells Rights to his Life Story…to His Own Charity

Speaking of ethical violations, Al Sharpton’s charity, the National Action Network (NAN), agreed to pay him $531,000 for his “life story rights for a 10-year period.”

NAN can now sell those rights at some point to Hollywood at a hefty profit. Sharpton claims he has contracts for two movies, with a third contract in the works, but did not provide any details.

Nonprofit experts expressed concern about the transaction because NAN —  a non-profit civil rights organization — is doing business with its own president.

Attorney Marcus Owens, a former IRS official, said NAN could lose its tax-exempt status if it breaches IRS rules regarding excessive compensation to nonprofit officials.

According to its tax filings, National Action Network took in $6.3 million in revenue in 2017, up from $5.8 million the year before. Meanwhile, Al Sharpton has owed back taxes to the IRS for years.

Sharpton paid off a $1.3 million tax lien to the IRS in February 2018, but still has $2.5 million in outstanding federal liens against him and one of his companies.

Al Sharpton’s Long History of Race-Baiting

Hopefully, Sharpton’s life story won’t whitewash his involvement in the sleazy Tawana Brawley scandal since it spotlights Sharpton’s long history of race-baiting.

Tawana Brawley gained notoriety in 1987 for falsely accusing four white men of gang-raping her. She was found in a trash bag with racial slurs scrawled on her body.

In the 1980s, Al Sharpton sparked a race war by championing Tawana Brawley’s fake rape hoax.

Brawley’s shocking accusations angered many in the black community and ignited a race war led by race-baiting clown Al Sharpton.

A grand jury concluded there was no evidence to support Brawley’s accusations. The falsely-accused white men later successfully sued Brawley and her lawyers for defamation.
