Former Obama aide urges civil war against Trump in rambling CNN op-ed

Former Obama official Joshua Geltzer is openly calling for a civil war in the unlikely event that President Trump loses the 2020 election but “refuses to accept defeat.”

And Geltzer says these four groups must conspire to bring down Donald Trump in 2020 (because the Deep State failed in 2016):

  • US military
  • Congress
  • Electoral College
  • All state governors.

A Projection of What Democrats Did In 2016

In a bizarre projection of how the Democrats reacted when they refused to accept defeat in 2016 after repeated attempts to rig that election in Hillary Clinton’s favor, Geltzer says the US military must remove Trump from office in the unlikely scenario that:

  1. Trump loses the 2020 election AND
  2. He refuses to leave peacefully. (Why the hell would that happen? Trump’s not a leftist who opposes the rule of law.)

Joshua Geltzer was the director of counterterrorism at the National Security Council during Barack Obama’s last two years in office. He discussed his plans for a hypothetical civil war in a rambling, incoherent CNN op-ed entitled: “What if Trump refuses to accept defeat in 2020?”

The purpose of the op-ed is to inflame liberals and foment leftist animus against President Trump now and in 2020:

“Our civilian and uniformed Defense Department leaders have a role to play. The health of our democracy rests, in part, on not involving the military in transfers of power. And that should continue.

But imagine the most extreme scenario, with Congress certifying Trump’s defeat but Trump refusing to leave office. In those circumstances, the military would no longer owe its loyalty to Donald Trump as of noon on January 20, 2021.

And it’s worth asking the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as they testify before Congress in coming months, to affirm that they understand that and would act consistently with it.”

Media Ignored Obama’s Authoritarianism

Geltzer says liberals must discuss how to navigate the unlikely scenario that Trump loses in 2020 AND refuses to accept defeat because he’s an authoritarian.

“Trump is increasingly proving himself to be a President eager to overstep his authority,” wrote Geltzer.

Geltzer blithely forgets that his authoritarian former boss, Barack Obama, repeatedly wielded unilateral power by penning 276 executive orders during his two terms in office.

Geltzer argues that President Trump has laid the groundwork to contest the results of the 2020 election by revealing Democrat efforts to allow illegal immigrants to vote and spotlighting the media’s proven anti-conservative bias.

“Trump’s unrelenting assaults on the media and intelligence community, augmented by his baseless insistence on widespread voter fraud, have laid the groundwork for him to contest the election results in worrisome ways by undermining two institutions Americans would count on to validate those results.”

Flashback: Remember these instances of Democrat voter fraud?

Democrat voter fraud is apparently rampant in Florida.

San Francisco is the first city in California to allow non-citizens to vote in a local election.

The Deep State doesn’t even hide its attempts to overthrow Trump in a treasonous coup.

Geltzer claims that Democrats have reason to worry that President Trump would not accept the results of the 2020 election, so liberals must prepare now for a revolt.

“In 2020, with his reelection on the line, the stakes for Trump himself are, of course, wildly bigger. All told, there’s real reason to worry here. So, what can be done now to avoid a potential constitutional crisis and ensure that the 2020 election results — whatever they might be — are respected and that any transfer of power occurs peacefully?

Thankfully, there are four key sets of governmental actors across the United States that can commit now to certain steps that would help to isolate President Trump should he refuse to hand over power peacefully.

First is the justifiably much-maligned Electoral College…For the sake of the rule of law and peaceful transfer of power, both parties should require anyone seeking to be one of the college’s electors to pledge that they will not withhold, delay or alter their vote based on the claims or protestations of any candidate, including President Trump.

Second is Congress. It’s the newly seated Congress that, in January 2021, will meet in joint session to receive the Electoral College’s handiwork and count the electoral votes. These senators and representatives should make a joint pledge not to delay or alter counting of the votes based on any candidate’s objections.

Third, 39 of America’s 50 state governors will not be up for reelection in 2020…Those 39 should band together now to make clear that they will serve, at least informally, as bastions of our democracy should a peaceful transfer of power look threatened by any candidate’s response to the election.

Fourth, our civilian and uniformed Defense Department leaders have a role to play…It’s worth asking the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as they testify before Congress in coming months, to affirm that they understand that and would act consistently with it.”

Reminder:

Hey Josh, we will keep all this in mind for when Republicans have to deal (once again) with snowflake Democrats who refuse to accept Trump’s 2020 victory.
