It’s State of the Union time. We all know what that means, America: Time for publicity stunts, pointless displays of ‘resistance,’ pomp and circumstance, and all that business.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg skipped out to give a speech. Democratic politicians will be decked out in black (it being the “death of democracy” that their anointed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wasn’t victorious). There are celeb counter-events that are too unhinged to even seriously address here, and political showmanship over SOTU guests.
Of course, one of the “in your face” moves by the Democratic Party is to include illegal immigrants at the State of the Union. This is a message that everyone is welcome in the United States, whether or not they follow our nation’s immigration laws.
As reported by Fox News, at least 30 Democrats plan on bringing so-called DREAMers, named after the un-passed legislation known as the DREAM Act, to the State of the Union address.
“I want to be clear: DREAMers are Americans,” said Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., who is bringing a guest from El Salvador who now works at Apple. “They contribute to our economy, our communities and our strength and stability as a nation.”
Melania Trump, for her own part, announced that she is bringing American servicemen to the event and even took a veiled shot at illegal immigrants.

But going well beyond a message lauding “citizens who have embraced the American dream” is the suggestion of Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ). Media outlets were incensed that the Republican Rep. would dare suggest that law enforcement would enforce the law at the State of the Union.
“Today, Congressman Paul Gosar contacted the U.S. Capitol Police, as well as Attorney General Jeff Sessions,” he tweeted, “asking they consider checking identification of all attending the State of the Union address and arresting any illegal aliens in attendance.”
“Additionally, Congressman Gosar asked that they arrest those using fraudulent social security numbers and identification to pass through security,” he continued.
“Of all the places where the Rule of Law needs to be enforced, it should be in the hallowed halls of Congress,” Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar added. “Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported.”
The Democrats, as could be predicted, are caterwauling about the GOP Rep.’s attempt to introduce law and order into their symbolic grandstanding, while many conservatives are all aboard.
