This week’s abrupt departure of Omarosa Manigault Newman from the White House raised many questions about what prompted the exit and even how it transpired.
But former White House press secretary Sean Spicer had his own unanswered question.
Asked by Fox News’s Laura Ingraham why the former contestant on “The Apprentice” was hired in the first place, Spicer answered simply, “I don’t know.”
“[Did] she have any qualifications to work in the White House?” Ingraham asked on “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday.
“Look, she was very loyal to the president,” Spicer said of Manigault Newman, who campaigned for Trump leading up to the 2016 election and was named the director of communications at the White House Office of Public Liaison when Trump took over the White House.
“I think the president brought a lot of people who wanted to fulfill his agenda,” Spicer said. “And that’s his prerogative … I wish her the best. But I don’t — I’m not really sure.”

Conflicting reports about Manigault Newman leaving her position surfaced Wednesday, with current White House press secretary Sarah Sanders claiming the aide submitted her resignation, while others reported that White House chief of staff John Kelly had fired her.
Another report, from American Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan, claimed the 43-year-old former reality television star had to be escorted off the White House property after being fired. The Secret Service dismissed those claims later that evening.

Manigault Newman told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she saw “uncomfortable” things in the administration while she served in the White House.
“I have seen things that made me uncomfortable, that have upset me, that have affected me deeply and emotionally, that has affected my community and my people.”
Ingraham described Manigault Newman as a “colorful, charismatic individual” and she has “a big personality,” noting that some people “can’t take that.”
“I will leave it at that,” Spicer responded, laughing.
