Omarosa’s sudden White House departure sparked controversy. Now, she says ‘uncomfortable’ things made her leave

Omarosa Manigault Newman abruptly left her position as leader at the Office of Public Liaison in the Trump administration on Wednesday. In her wake, she left a swirling controversy about the manner of her departure and her reason for doing so.

Manigualt Newman’s departure from the White House was widely reported to be a ‘dramatic’ one. The outspoken former Apprentice star hit ABC’s Good Morning America Thursday morning to shed some light about what had happened, but only raised more questions.

“I resigned,” she told host host Michael Strahan. Manigualt Newman went on to suggest that she saw “uncomfortable” things in the Trump administration during her time in the White House.

“There were a lot of things that I observed during the last year that I was very unhappy with, that I was very uncomfortable with,” Manigault Newman said.

“I’m not going to expand on it because I still have to go back and work with these individuals, but when I have a chance to tell my story, Michael, quite a story to tell as the only African-American woman in this White House as a senior staff and assistant to the president, I have seen things that made me uncomfortable, that have upset me, that have affected me deeply and emotionally, that has affected my community and my people. And when I can tell my story, it is a profound story that I know the world will want to hear,” she said.

Manigualt Newman also seemed to confirm rumors that Chief of Staff John Kelly was not too fond of her role in the Trump administration. “We had a very candid conversation. I wanted to make the one-year mark, that was one of the goals I set out to, and then get back to my life,” Newman said of her final conversation with Kelly.

She stressed that it was Trump who asked her to take the position. “Donald Trump chose me for his team. I’m not sure as John Kelly was starting to develop his team that that’s someone who wanted me to be on his team.”

“I am the only African-American woman who sits at the table with those 30 assistants to the president. We all had to adjust to his very different, militaristic style,” she said.

Manigualt Newman was widely reported to have exited the White House under duress and high drama. CBC news reported that she set off White House alarms when she tried to reenter the White House to speak to the President.

Wednesday evening the Secret Service dismissed claims made by Manigault Newman’s former friend, liberal reporter April Ryan, that she was physically removed from the White House.

Trump downplayed the story on Wednesday with a short but sweet tweet.

Manigualt Newman did appear to stick up for President Trump on Good Morning America when she was asked if he was trying to unite America.

“But did President Trump try? I think he tried in his own way,” she said. “There are things that he could have done and things that this administration needs to continue to do to try to bring this country together.”
