And just like that, it was gone.
Music mogul Russel Simmons is the latest among the rich and powerful to see their empires tumble before their eyes.

In response to the second, and very detailed allegation of sexual assault, Simmons announced he’d be stepping down from the businesses he founded.
Simmons had become a rap music icon and rose to fame and prosperity by co-founding the mega successful empire Def Jam Recordings. His success led to many other profitable endeavors including landing a deal with cable network HBO.
But now the cable giant is making a clean and swift break from Simmons, and they mean business.
Matt Lauer can’t stop telling Sandra Bullock he’s ‘seen her naked’ in cringeworthy interview
“HBO will be airing All Def Comedy as planned,” an HBO spokesperson said on Thursday.
And then came the clincher.
“However, Russell Simmons will not appear in the new series and we will be removing his name from the show moving forward.”
In others words… gone, wiped clean, like you were never there. Brutal.
Simmons created and produced HBO’s series All Def Comedy and has played an active role in its success as well as other films and TV projects.

While it seems Simmons won’t be losing his fortune any time soon, you can’t put a price on your name and reputation.
Simmons’ current nightmare began when former model Keri Clausen Khalighi accused Simmons of raping her while fellow friend and filmmaker Brett Ratner watched.

Simmons at first denied any wrongdoing, which prompted award-winning screenwriter Jenny Lumet to disclose her story of sexual assault by the music mogul.
It was Lumet’s explosive report that pushed Simmons to step down from from the helm of his business ventures.
HBO wasted no time cutting its ties too.
