Harvey Weinstein booted from another film group as Hollywood goes into full CYA mode

The Producers Guild of America unanimously voted to expel Harvey Weinstein following the avalanche of sexual abuse and rape allegations mounting against the disgraced film mogul.

“This morning, the PGA’s National Board of Directors and Officers decided by unanimous vote to institute termination proceedings concerning Harvey Weinstein’s membership,” the PGA said in a statement posted on its website.

“Sexual Harassment of any type is completely unacceptable. This is a systemic and pervasive problem requiring immediate industry-wide action.”

The PGA then said it’s setting up a “task force” to combat sexual harassment, which is pervasive in show business.

“Today, the PGA’s National Board and Officers — composed of 20 women and 18 men — created the Anti-Sexual Harassment Task Force specifically charged with researching and proposing substantive and effective solutions to sexual harassment in the entertainment industry,” the group said.

The hollow gesture is laughable considering that practically everyone in Hollywood knew Weinstein was harassing and abusing women but no one did anything about it. So it’s unclear what good a task force would be if no actions are taken against predators.

The PGA’s move to distance itself from Weinstein came shortly after both the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts revoked his membership.

So far, 43 women have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment or assault. Five said he raped them. More victims are coming forward every day.

Meanwhile, public outrage is growing amid revelations that many in Hollywood and the mainstream media were aware of Weinstein’s predatory behavior for the past 30 years but kept silent.

Over the years, many people came forward (like child actors Corey Feldman, the late Corey Haim, and “Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood) detailing how predatory Hollywood executives threw parties where they invited young boys, sexually molested them, and then passed them around to each other.

In 2011, Feldman said child sex abuse is rampant in show business. “The No. 1 problem in Hollywood was, is, and always will be pedophilia,” he said (see video starting at 1:03). “I was surrounded by pedophiles.”

Despite his revelations, no actions were taken to crack down on pedophiles in the entertainment industry.
