“We’ve been sent a clear message.”
Hillary Clinton has blamed everyone for her loss but herself, but one Democratic lawmaker says enough is enough.
Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton said American voters have sent Democrats a “clear message” that they must change after last week’s “horrific” election.
Not only did Donald Trump win the presidency despite battling the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, the media, the billionaire donor class, biased polls, Hollywood and Wall Street, but the GOP won control of the House of Representatives for the fourth consecutive election cycle.
Republicans also retained control of the Senate despite much hand-wringing that having Trump at the top of the ticket would lead to the destruction of the party.
Rep. Moulton said the Democratic Party’s utter defeat last week is a mandate for change. “We need to have a serious discussion within our party, because the last few elections have been horrific,” Moulton told CNN. “The last three or four elections in the House have been terrible.”
Moulton added, “We lost the White House, the Senate … We only have 16 governorships across the country, and we don’t have a majority of the state legislatures, so the American people have sent a clear message to us Democrats that the status quo is not acceptable.”
Moulton praised Nancy Pelosi — who has led House Democrats since 2002 — but suggested a change may be in order.
“What I’m saying is we ought to have several different competing views and lay out a plan for the future, the best strategy to carry our caucus and our party forward,” Moulton said. “If Nancy Pelosi has the best strategy, then we should vote for her, but let’s hear some competing views.”
Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) has since stepped forward to challenge Pelosi’s 14-year reign over the House Democratic caucus.
Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton and her camp have blamed FBI Director James Comey, white men, the working class and the electoral college for her unexpected defeat.
In the latest iteration of her post-election “Blame Everyone Else” tour, Clinton aides blamed white women for her loss, saying white women sold out the sisterhood because they’re self-hating misogynists.
