Hillary Clinton refuses to address her devastated election night party supporters

In the wee hours of the morning, when it was looking like the election would be called for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton sent her campaign chairman John Pedestal to ask her supporters to pack it in and get some rest until every vote had been counted.

NBC News posted that video to its Twitter feed at 2:11; CBS News did the same at 2:05.

“Several states are too close to call so we aren’t going to have anything more to say tonight,” Podesta told the Democratic nominee’s well-wishers. “Everybody should head home and get some sleep. We’ll have more to say tomorrow,” he continued.

“I want every person in this hall, and across the country, to know that your voices and your enthusiasm means so much.”

But their “voices and enthusiasm” didn’t mean enough. At 1:37 a.m., about a half-hour before the networks reported Pedestal addressing the crowd, The Associated called Pennsylvania for Trump, and with it, declared Trump the ultimate victor.

“We are so proud of you, and we are so proud of her. She’s done an amazing job and she is not done yet. So thank you for being with her — she has always been with you,” he told the Clinton supporters.

“Goodnight. We will be back, we will have more to say. Let’s get those votes counted and let’s bring this home.”

As it turned out the election was brought home — just not to the person he had in mind.

The Clinton camp may have had an inkling before the polls even closed — the campaign cancelled a planned celebratory fireworks display the day before.
