Fox News contributor Eboni Williams countered recent criticism of Donald Trump, dismissing claims that he is a racist.
Trump was facing heat for not disavowing an endorsement from David Duke, a former KKK leader, on Sunday. As discussion on Fox’s “Outnumbered” turned to the Republican presidential candidate’s ability to rise above controversy, Williams was asked if she believed Trump is a racist.
“I don’t, because I understand what an actual racist is,” said the political analyst.
“I think that that is a term that many of us in America don’t really understand the nature of. And we apply it in a too broad, incorrect way,” she added.
Though she conceded that the GOP front-runner has made comments that sound racist, she did not feel the term accurately portrayed who he is.
“Now, has he made statements that kind of target the xenophobic nature of some of this country? Of course. But I don’t believe he himself is a racist. That is my take on that.”
