Media Research Center announced its 28th annual “Worst of the Worst” awards in liberal propaganda and biased reporting, and 2015 gave us some doozies.
MRC is a Virginia-based, politically conservative media watchdog organization founded in 1987 by frequent Fox News contributor Brent Bozell.
The “Audacity of Dope Award” for the wackiest analysis of the year went to Dylan Matthews for claiming in his July 2 Vox.com post (two days before Independence Day) that the world would be a better place without a United States.
Headlined “3 reasons the American Revolution was a mistake,” he wrote:
“American independence in 1776 was a monumental mistake….I’m reasonably confident a world in which the revolution never happened would be better than the one we live in now, for three main reasons: Slavery would’ve been abolished earlier, American Indians would’ve faced rampant persecution but not the outright ethnic cleansing Andrew Jackson and other American leaders perpetrated, and America would have a parliamentary system of government….Government spending in parliamentary countries is about 5 percent of GDP higher.”
The 2015 “Barbra Streisand Political IQ Award for Celebrity Vapidity” went to “Star Trek’s” Mr. Sulu, George Takei, for a highly racist statement he made about the U.S. Supreme Court’s only sitting African-American justice, Clarence Thomas.
In a June 30 interview with Fox 10 in Phoenix, Arizona, Takei said:
“He is a clown in blackface sitting on the Supreme Court, he said In a June 30 interview with Fox 10 in Phoenix, Arizona. “He gets me that angry. He doesn’t belong there….This man does not belong on the Supreme Court. He is an embarrassment. He is a disgrace to America.”
Takei was later shredded for his comments by conservatives and liberals alike.
The “What Difference Does It Make” Award for denying Hillary Clinton’s scandals went to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, for his interview of “Clinton Cash” author, Peter Schweizer.
Stephanopoulos excoriated the author during an April 26 airing of “This Week” on ABC News, claiming he had no proof that Clinton, while serving as secretary of state, took any official action to benefit Clinton Foundation donors.
“No smoking gun,” the host said to Schweizer. “Is there a smoking gun?”
Several weeks later, it was revealed that Stephanopoulos had donated $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation prior to his interview with the author.
MRC’s “Quote of the Year” award went to MSNBC’s looniest host, Melissa Harris-Perry, who claimed that the term “hard worker” is racist.
When Alfonso Aguilar, from Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, mentioned that he considered Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., a “hard worker,” Harris-Perry interrupted.
“I want us to be super careful when we use the language ‘hard worker,’ because I actually keep an image of folks working in cotton fields on my office wall, because it is a reminder about what hard work looks like,” she told Aguilar. “So, I feel you that he’s a hard worker, I do, but in the context of relative privilege.”
Yep, that’s right. she brought “white privilege” into the mix also.
Fox News host Greta Van Susteren later ran Harris-Perry’s analysis over the coals, stating that although hosting a TV show may not be hard work, “Those of us on TV have a responsibility to not be completely ridiculous.”
Other MRC “Worst” awards, including the “Obamagasm Award,” the “Pantsuit Patrol Award” and the “Damn Those Conservatives Award” can be viewed here.
