British oil giant BP announced Tuesday that it ousted its chairman Albert Manifold, citing concerns over his conduct.
BP said in a statement that Manifold, who was appointed as the company’s chairman in July 2025, is being removed from the role effective immediately following “serious concerns” related to “important governance standards, oversight and conduct.” The company’s statement did not elaborate on what Manifold’s specific conduct issues were.
“Albert has helped bring a welcome focus and pace to bp’s transformation,” BP Senior Independent Director Amanda Blanc said in a statement. “However, the board has been surprised and disappointed to learn of governance oversight and conduct issues it deems unacceptable and has taken decisive action.”
When reached for comment, a BP spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation that they did not “have anything else to add on the record.”
BP’s Board has appointed Ian Tyler to serve as interim chair “with immediate effect,” according to the announcement.
“The Board and leadership team have deep conviction in the strategic direction we have laid out, and the company is moving at pace to deliver it,” Tyler said in a statement. “bp is building a track record of strong underlying operational performance and a tight focus on financial discipline – all in the pursuit of growing shareholder value and returns.”
“The Board has been very impressed with Meg O’Neill since she joined as CEO,” he added. “She has extensive industry and operational experience and real clarity about the direction and opportunity for the business. She has already taken bold action to simplify and strengthen the organization such as announcing the move to a clearly defined upstream/downstream model. Under her leadership we are building a simpler, stronger, more valuable bp.”
BP’s shares fell as much as 9% following the announcement on Tuesday, according to CNBC.
