Gunman accused of shooting up busy Massachusetts street looks worse for wear in first court appearance

Daily Caller News Foundation

The man accused of firing at least 60 rounds on a busy street in Cambridge, Massachusetts, looked semi-comatose during his arraignment Thursday.

A Marine veteran and a Massachusetts state trooper intervened when 46-year-old Tyler Brown randomly opened fire at vehicles on Memorial Drive Monday. During his court appearance from a hospital bed, where he is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds, Brown appeared to be barely conscious in video posted to X by CBS Boston reporter Kristina Rex.

The 14-second video shows Brown in his bed, surrounded by what appeared to be his attorneys. His head was slumped down and he did not appear to be responsive while his attorneys sat, one to each side.

Brown, who had a history of violent crime, allegedly carried out the brazen shooting rampage that left two people severely wounded just days after being released from a psychiatric hospital, WBUR, a Boston-area NPR station, reported.

In a May 2020 incident, Brown allegedly tried to kill a Boston police officer, eventually pleading guilty to armed assault with intent to murder and multiple other offenses, according to the Suffolk Country District Attorney’s Office. Despite having fired at least 13 rounds from a .40-caliber Glock that he was illegally carrying, Brown was sentenced to only five to six years in prison.

Prior to the May 2020 incident with the police, Brown also had been convicted of witness intimidation and assault, The Associated Press reported.
