Senate hopeful with Nazi tattoo vows ‘to be arrested as US Senator’ if Dems lose

Graham Platner, the Maine leftist seeking Sen. Susan Collins’ seat, predicted on Saturday that he’ll be arrested if he wins his race against Collins but Democrats fail to retake the whole Senate.

He made the prediction while speaking on Saturday in a chicken barn in Appleton, according to the Midcoast Villager.

He said that, as a senator, one of his roles would include “an element of activism,” including appearances at protests.

“If we don’t get the majority and things continue to get worse, I will promise you that I’m going to be arrested as a United States senator,” he continued.

This isn’t the first time he’s spouted such rhetoric:

If, on the other hand, Democrats retake the Senate, Graham vowed Democrats would “shut the White House down.”

“We haul everyone in the White House under subpoena, day in, day out, in front of Senate committees to answer questions about all the lawbreaking they’ve been doing,” he boasted.

He also broached the possibility of trying to impeach and remove “at least two” Supreme Court justices.

Republicans aren’t taking these threats lying down.

“It’s a good thing Graham Platner isn’t a real oysterman from Maine because he’ll no longer be able to live in the state after we thoroughly beat the sh-t out of him,” a spokesperson for the Senate Leadership Fund told Semafor last week.

Platner also faces problems on his own side of the aisle because of his history of having a large Nazi symbol – an SS Totenkopf — on his chest, though it’s since been covered up, and of victim-blaming female sexual assault victims.

He was confronted about the latter at a town hall last year:

Meanwhile, Rep. Debbie Dingell, a top Democrat from Michigan, declined on Saturday to say whether she’ll support Platner’s candidacy after a CNN host pressed her about his past behavior.

“Graham Platner … had to apologize for a tattoo that resembles a Nazi symbol, and for comments he made criticizing rape victims,” the CNN host said. “In Reddit posts uncovered by CNN’s K-File, he called himself a communist and called cops, quote, ‘bastards.'”

“He’s disavowed those posts. He said they came from a time when he felt disillusioned and angry. But I’m curious if you think that he is an appropriate person to represent the Democratic Party,” the host added.

“So, first of all, I’m going to say I was very upset as a woman who has dealt with domestic violence, grew up in a home, and other sexual violence, very upset by what his previous comments were,” Dingell replied before performing a 180 in Platner’s defense.

“I am not on the ground in Maine. I think that people need to — people are angry. People are upset. People want change in this country. And if you don’t see people standing up to the president, then you see some of the results of what happened in Maine,” she said.

“So are you OK with him being the representative of the Democratic Party in Maine?” Dingell was then asked.

“We’re going to have to see what happens in Maine,” the House Democrat replied. “I’m not a citizen of Maine. I’m not voting there. But I am very concerned about making sure that we keep the Michigan Senate seat a Democratic seat in November and that we pull people together after what’s becoming a very raucous primary.”
