Marjorie Taylor Greene not calling it a hoax but questions Trump assassination attempt in Butler

Former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene responded to backlash after being accused of suggesting the assassination attempt on Donald Trump was a hoax.

The former Georgia Republican, who was a staunch defender of President Donald Trump before stepping down before her term in Congress was over, shared a message on social media by a woman called Trisha Hope, questioning the details of the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, PA.

“Extremely important post worth the read and consideration,” Greene captioned her post.

“Corey Comperatore’s family deserves to know the truth about Matthew Crooks and what happened in Butler on July 13, 2024,” she added, referring to the former volunteer fire chief who was killed when 20-year-old Thomas Crooks opened fire at the rally. “President Trump, of all people, should be leading the charge. Why isn’t he? That’s the question.”

Greene, who recently called for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office, shared a post from Hope, reportedly a delegate from Texas for the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Hope expressed doubts and claimed Trump has “show[n] no interest in investigating what really happened.”

“He never mentions it, it’s as if it never happened, except when he tells us, he took a bullet for us,” she wrote in her lengthy post, which seemed to draw many X users to agree with the theory that there is more to the story.

“Corey Comperatore’s wife and daughters deserve to know why Corey, a true American patriot and hero was murdered in Butler,” Greene wrote in another X post. “Trump said repeatedly ‘I am your retribution.’ Where is the retribution?”

She later attempted to clarify after criticism, saying she was not calling the Butler incident a “hoax,” but was calling for more transparency in the investigation.

“I’m not calling the Butler assassination a hoax,” she wrote. “But there are a lot of questions that deserve public answers.”

“I’m asking why won’t Trump release the information about Matthew Crooks? Did he actually act alone? If not, who is behind him and who helped him? Why the cover up??” Greene asked.
