Ongoing efforts to safeguard illegal aliens found one Democrat accused of an outright lie, as hyperbole suggested an existential threat to America’s healthcare industry.

This week, the left’s America Last modus operandi continued with Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D) leading the fight in forcing a vote on the Temporary Protected Status of Haitians. Following the success, which featured 10 Republicans jumping ship from the president’s agenda, the lawmaker made a claim about the percentage of healthcare workers who are Haitian that was deemed “not even remotely close to being true or accurate.”

Standing outside the Capitol, the “elated” congresswoman talked up instability in the Caribbean nation with Meidas Touch reporter Pablo Manríquez as she contended, “One in five healthcare workers are Haitian. One in four of our long-term healthcare workers are Haitian. That was a point that was deeply resonant for a lot of people because if you don’t extend Temporary Protected Status, people’s work authorizations are immediately null and void.”

Reacting to the claim, Fox News congressional correspondent Bill Melugin shared data compiled by the American Immigration Council and stated, “That is not even remotely close to being true or accurate. Haitians are not 20% of the US health care workforce. According to the pro-immigration American Immigration Council, Haitians make up 0.6% of the healthcare workforce in the U.S.”

According to the AIC, Haiti rounded out the top five nations supplying the largest percentage of immigrant healthcare workers behind the Philippines, Mexico, India and Jamaica, with their respective shares among “Immigrant Healthcare Workers” being 13.5%, 10.7%, 7.0%, 4.4%, and 3.9% for Haiti.

By comparison, the top five nations’ percentages among all healthcare workers amounted to 2.2%, 1.7%, 1.1%, 0.7% and 0.6%, with just over 102,000 Haitians holding healthcare positions.

The Republicans who aided Pressley in her fight to extend Haitian TPS to April 2029 included Reps. Don Bacon of Nebraska, Mike Carey of Ohio, Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Carlos Gimenez of Florida, Mike Lawler of New York, Nicole Malliotakis of New York, Rich McCormick of Georgia, Mike Turner of Ohio, and Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida, who had herself been pushing through an amnesty bill.

Responses to the Democrat lawmaker’s narrative on Haitians emphasized the dedication of the left in benefiting non-citizens, which included the willingness to dismiss reality for the benefit of scoring political points.

Similarly, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. set Texas Rep. Greg Casar (D) in his place Friday during a House Education & Workforce hearing when the lawmaker claimed that 1.4 million people had lost their health insurance last year after being dropped from Obamacare. To that, the secretary responded, “They’re almost all illegal immigrants.”

As the congressman attempted to press forward with a specific example of constituents, Kennedy furthered, “We found 1.5 million illegal immigrants illegally collecting Medicaid.”
