Hero Oklahoma school principal tackled school shooter while being shot

Harrowing video shows the moment an Oklahoma school principal tackled a former student after reportedly getting shot.

The 60-year-old principal, Kirk Moore, was seen confronting 20-year-old Victor Lee Hawkins at Pauls Valley High School after the Columbine-obsessed ex-student allegedly brandished two loaded handguns. Security video captured the entire event from the moment Hawkins walked into the school shouting “get on the ground” while pointing his gun, until he was disarmed by Moore, who had been in a room just off camera.

Watch:

The shooter’s gun malfunctioned while he was allegedly trying to shoot at a student in the lobby, and after he stepped behind a vending machine to clear the weapon, he emerged again and fired a shot at another student, who reportedly put his hands up and asked the man not to shoot him. According to court documents reviewed by KFOR, he lowered his firearm and told both students to leave.

Moore emerged into the lobby to investigate, confronting the shooter and allegedly being shot in the right leg before tackling and disarming him on a school lobby couch. The principal, who was the only one hurt during the altercation, held the suspect until law enforcement arrived. According to KFOR, Hawkins not only admitted to bringing firearms into the school, but admitted that he did so “with the intent of killing students, [faculty], and finally himself.” The chilling motive? He “did not like Principal Moore” and “went to the high school to kill Moore,” and because he “wanted to conduct his own school shooting like the Columbine shooters did.”

The heroic principal was taken to the hospital for his injury and is being celebrated for ending what could have been a horrific tragedy.
