Kamala Harris talks of 2028 presidential run in chat with Al Sharpton

Failed Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris suggested that she could be considering jumping into the 2028 race in her clearest comments yet that she hasn’t given up on her White House dreams.

The former Vice President was among the 2028 Democrat hopefuls who appeared at the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference in New York City on Friday, seen by some political pundits as an audition or, as The New York Times put it, the “first cattle call” of the 2028 primaries.

During her chat with Reverend Al, Harris was asked about whether she was mulling another presidential run after her 2024 shellacking by President Donald J. Trump.

“Listen, I might. I’m thinking about it,” she said, adding, “Let me also say this. I served for four years being a heartbeat away from the presidency of the United States. I spent countless hours in my West Wing office, footsteps away from the Oval Office. I spent countless hours in the Oval Office, in the Situation Room. I know what the job is. And I know what it requires.”

“I’ve been traveling in the country the last year, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the South and many other places. And the one thing I’m really clear about also is, the status quo is not working, and hasn’t been working for a lot of people for a long time,” Harris said.

It was music to the ears of the black power brokers who will have much sway in deciding who emerges from what could be a grueling primary process.

To say that Harris got her clock cleaned in 2024 would be a monumental understatement. Despite boatloads of money, an adoring media, and the power of incumbency, she lost all seven swing states and the popular vote as well. And, she cost the Democrats control of the Senate.

But the allure of making history as the nation’s first female president of color is a heck of an enticement, both for Harris and those who are desperately seeking to keep DEI alive and well in the Democratic Party.

In addition to the former vice president who grabbed the headlines for her remarks, other 2028 hopefuls slated to appear in Manhattan to kiss Sharpton’s ring included former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) who fancies himself as a reincarnated version of the Thracian gladiator Spartacus.

The 2028 field is already being mocked as a clown car by conservative influencers on X.

One Democrat 2028 contender was conspicuous by his absence, with California Gov. Gavin Newsom not being a participant at Sharpton’s “cattle call,” with it being unclear whether he refused to participate in the humiliation ritual or wasn’t invited.
