Actor Ryan Gosling’s shout-out sends Florida bakery’s specialty item soaring

A Florida bakery was launched into the big leagues thanks to actor Ryan Gosling’s late-night rave.

Gosling was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” when he praised a Tallahassee bakery owned by the sister of “Saturday Night Live” wardrobe supervisor Donna Richards. Specifically, he raved about the homemade Pop-Tarts, which has resulted in a massive business spike as people try to get their hands on the same pastry.

“And Donna’s sister- can I mention her bakery? She owns a bakery in Florida, in Tallahassee? And they make the most incredible Pop-Tarts,” he said. “You have to order these Pop-Tarts. And Donna gives them to you at the beginning of the show, like when you start hosting, so you’re just running on Pop-Tarts the whole [time.]”

“Only you!” Donna shouted from off-stage, denying that she gives treats to any of the other actors.

Intrigued viewers found The Cake Shop Bakery and began placing their orders for these “Popped Tarts,” much to the surprise of the owner Linda Richards, according to WCTV.

“I did not know that was coming. It was a total shock. I was blown into another universe,” she said of the actor’s endorsement. “That’s huge.”

While Gosling apparently prefers the strawberry flavor, the pastry also comes in cinnamon, blueberry and the classic combo of peanut butter and jelly.

“Everybody has something they want at any bakery, right? Whether it’s a cookie or a cupcake or for me its monkey pie. It’s just everybody’s thing and that’s what it is evidently for him,” she added.

Now, she’s racing to keep up with hungry customers.

“It’s on fire. The phone rings off the hook. I have thousands of requests,” Richards said of the sudden influx of orders.

“I heard about these Popped-Tarts. My dad sent me an article. I was like, Tallahassee Popped-Tarts? I need some,” said Ian Osterhaus, an “excited” customer who was able to get his hands on some of the treats.

“Richards said by mid-afternoon, the bakery had sold more than 100 popped tarts in the shop alone and orders are pouring in from all over the country, some for batches of hundreds at a time,” WCTV reported. Richards is asking customers for their patience as she works diligently to keep up with the sharp increase in demand for which the store was not prepared.
