Scandal-drenched Dem ex-mayor switches parties, states in bid for political comeback

The scandal-drenched former Democrat mayor of a Chicago-area suburb is looking to reboot her political career after moving to Georgia and switching to a Republican.

Self-proclaimed “super mayor” Tiffany Henyard made national headlines for her wild antics and alleged corruption during her stint at city hall in the village of Dolton, Illinois, but dropped off the radar after losing her bid for reelection.

Now Henyard has resurfaced in Dixieland, where she is trying to reinvent herself to get her foot in the door as a member of the Fulton County Commission, according to Fox News, which cites election records.

Panned by critics as the “worst mayor in America,” Henyard is the lone Republican running for the seat in South Fulton County’s District 5 against four Democratic candidates.

Henyard’s extravagant spending habits made her a poster gal for crooked Democrat politicians and caught the eye of the FBI, which probed alleged corruption in her administration, with a number of officials being served with subpoenas.

The “super mayor” was never charged and went on to lose her bid for reelection last year.  Henyard also served as the supervisor for Thornton Township in the Democratic stronghold of Cook County.

After she was ousted as the leader in Dolton, a financial probe reportedly found that the village’s bank account “fell from its initial $5.6 million balance to a $3.6 million deficit,” Fox News Digital reported. During her tenure, the filing of annual financial reports and audits with the Illinois Comptroller’s office was delinquent.

The “narcissistic” Henyard spent money like a drunken sailor, with residents accusing the mayor of using the village’s funds as her personal piggy bank. She was also accused of using thousands of dollars in taxpayer money for hairstyle and makeup, and was accused of putting her makeup artist on the payroll.

Henyard was also slammed over trips she took, including a lavish junket to Las Vegas. A 2024 WGN investigation analyzed government credit card records for $102,987 in receipts for the trips, finding that the Sin City entourage “included two of her administrative assistants, two Dolton police officers who acted as her security detail, a photographer, two township trustees, as well as a Dolton trustee.”

The outlet found that the receipts showed that “the entire trip cost taxpayers at least $26,099. The vast majority of the money – $24,300 – was paid for by residents of the 17 south suburbs that comprise Thornton Township.”

When faced with questions about her spending, Henyard played the victim – and the race card.

Along with scrutiny over financial mismanagement and potential corruption, Henyard also made headlines for her outrageous conduct, including jumping into a wild melee at a January 2025 Thornton Township Board of Trustees meeting and losing her wig during the ugly public tussle.

The ex-mayor proudly embraced her gangsta image by showing up at a 2023 Dolton Village board meeting dressed like Nino Brown, the crime kingpin played by Wesley Snipes in the 1991 movie “New Jack City,” a stunt that some believe was intended to intimidate critics.

However, Henyard’s political rebrand may already be doomed.

The Hill is reporting that “county records show she hasn’t lived in the area for more than a year, which is a requirement for candidacy.”
