‘Heads down, hands up!’ Southwest flight diverts to Atlanta due to ‘possible security matter’

One passenger is in custody after a Southwest flight was diverted to Atlanta over a “possible security matter.”

According to a Southwest spokesperson, Southwest Airlines Flight 2094 was able to land safely at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) on Friday after a “possible security matter” required the aircraft to divert from its original flight path from Nashville to Fort Lauderdale.

“We appreciate the professionalism of our Flight Crew and apologize to our Customers for the delay. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of its Customers and Employees,” the statement reads.

The identity of the detained passenger has not been released, and there is very little information on what that person may have said or done to prompt such a drastic response. Likewise, it has not been confirmed whether anything dangerous was actually found aboard the plane.

Videos reportedly from the flight have begun to circulate on social media as passengers were instructed to put their heads down and their hands up over the seats.
