Video surfaces of Dems’ new Senate nominee Talarico calling for ‘dismantling’ of prisons

Texas state Rep. James Talarico clinched the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate this week, and his social media posts gained new life as many of his far-left views resurfaced.

The 36-year-old  former middle school teacher defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the primary race and is already laying the groundwork for his campaign, claiming it is a “movement,” and Republicans are afraid.

“They’re scared of the movement we are building,” he said in his victory speech.

“They’re going to throw everything they have at us. They’re going to call me a radical leftist. They’re going to call me a fake Christian. They’ll call our movement un-Texan, un-American. They’ll call us a threat. The only truth is, we are a threat…to their corrupt system,” he said to cheers, invoking Jesus in his rhetoric about “injustice.”

But the media darling has left behind a trail of videos and posts that shed a different light on his attempts to “put his Christian faith at the forefront of his campaign,” as the New York Times noted.

One video that has resurfaced in light of Talarico’s win was from four years ago, as he spoke about abolishing prisons.

“Poverty is violence, Pollution is violence, And yes, prison is violence,” he said at the time, calling to “dismantle” the system and “build something new” and “something rooted in love.”

Talarico’s past will provide a treasure trove of material for Republican attack ads.

Social media users poring over Talarico’s posts noted the “goldmine of opposition research” available, with examples such as the lawmaker’s 2020 take that “White skin gives me and every white American immunity from the virus.”

“The only cure is diagnosing the virus within ourselves and taking dramatic actions to contain the spread. The first small step is proclaiming loudly and unequivocally that #BlackLivesMatter,” he wrote amid the pandemic.

The Democratic Party will likely give the lawmaker a pass on his past, and the media will never ask him the real questions.
