Iranian women’s national football team refused to sing the anthem of the Islamic Regime

The Iranian women’s soccer team made a loud statement with their silence during their own national anthem.

It’s considered a sign of respect to sing along to your country’s national anthem during sporting events, especially those taking place overseas, but the Iranian women’s national soccer team refused to do that on Monday night. The team remained silent as the song blasted out over the speakers at the Women’s Asian Cup on the Gold Coast.

Watch:

“The players were in their customary line before their match against South Korea when the Iranian national anthem began to play. The women, looking straight ahead and barely moving, were stoic as it appeared there were jeers from the crowd. Later, applause erupted from those in attendance following the 3-0 South Korea victory,” Fox News reported.

Marziyeh Jafari, the team manager, smiled at her players from the sidelines.

This comes after the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of Operation Epic Fury, a joint operation between the United States and Israel. Zahra Ghanbari, the team’s captain, was asked about Khamenei’s death on Sunday. Jafari, who was also being questioned, began to answer in Farsi, but an AFC media representative ended the line of questioning quickly.

“OK, I think that’s all for your question. Thank you for asking. Let’s just focus on the game itself,” they said.
