Minnesota’s ‘Autism Care’ spending reportedly jumped 34,200% under Walz

Citing fraud concerns, Vice President J.D. Vance announced this week that the Trump administration is “temporarily halting” $259 million in federal Medicaid funding to Minnesota.

Included among the 14 high-risk entities is the Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention (EIDBI) autism intervention program, which saw spending explode under Governor Tim Walz.

“This is not a problem with the people of Minnesota, it’s a problem with the leadership of Minnesota and other states who do not take Medicaid preservation seriously,” said Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, who accompanied the vice president. “We’ll give them the money, but we’re going to hold it and only release it after they propose and act on a comprehensive corrective action plan to solve the problem.”

Just how bad is the problem? The popular Libs of TikTok account shared a post on X reflecting a 34,200 percent increase in just 8 years, going from just over $1 million in 2017 to $343 million in 2024.

Walz, who has already announced that he is not running for reelection, responded with another juvenile attack on President Trump, claiming the skyrocketing increase “has nothing to do with fraud.”

“The agents Trump allegedly sent to investigate fraud are shooting protesters and arresting children. His DOJ is gutting the U.S. Attorney’s Office and crippling their ability to prosecute fraud. And every week Trump pardons another fraudster,” the failed Democratic vice presidential candidate bemoaned.

“This is a campaign of retribution. Trump is weaponizing the entirety of the federal government to punish blue states like Minnesota,” he added in a follow-up. “These cuts will be devastating for veterans, families with young kids, folks with disabilities, and working people across our state.”

The one consistency amid all the allegations of fraud coming out of Somaliasota is the total lack of accountability for those driving the theft.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
