‘BIG MISTAKE!!!’ ESPN torched for going all in on ‘Women’s Sports Sunday’

ESPN’s woke approach to covering sports just got another boost, as the left-of-center network began promoting “Women’s Sports Sunday.”

With America getting a full dose of women’s sports, whether they want it or not, ESPN will feature WNBA and NWSL games on Sunday nights in a timeslot that was slotted for “Sunday Night Baseball.”

The timeslot became available after ESPN and MLB reportedly exercised a mutual opt-out after the network attempted to reduce rights fees, which MLB said was “simply unacceptable.” Sunday Night Baseball will be broadcast on NBC/Peacock next season.

“Women’s sports are experiencing continued momentum, and Women’s Sports Sundays is ESPN’s next step in meeting that demand,” Rosalyn Durant, ESPN Executive Vice President, Programming & Acquisitions, said in a statement. “This franchise is about more than showcasing games — it’s about building a consistent, high-profile destination that reflects the passion, excellence and cultural impact of women’s sports today, while giving athletes and leagues the stage they deserve.”

Craig Carton, who was the co-host of the Carton and Roberts sports radio program on WFAN in New York City, sees the move as a death knell for ESPN.

“ESPN just passed away! It’s a wrap for what used to be the ‘Worldwide Leader’… after a 35-year old Sunday programming mainstay, they have decided to go to Women’s Sports Sundays,” Carton said, explaining that there’s never been a television audience for it unless Caitlin Clark is planning on playing in every single Sunday night game.
