The Somali woman who gave the viral “bananas and rice” speech was arrested Wednesday for obstructing federal law enforcement, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Bondi posted a list of individuals who were arrested for allegedly impeding federal law enforcement operations, including Nasra Ahmed. Ahmed went viral for a speech in which she said, “Being Somali isn’t just eating bananas with rice, it’s like a cultural fusion, it’s kind of like the bananas and rice.”

Bondi announced that she was on the ground with federal agents on Wednesday in an X post. Ahmed is one of 16 individuals arrested by federal law enforcement for “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees,” according to Bondi’s tweet.
The arrests come in the midst of ongoing protests in Minnesota, erupting after the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during federal law enforcement operations. Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protesters have targeted federal law enforcement in the aftermath, attacking hotels suspected of holding ICE agents.
