Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent eviscerated California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who was strutting around like a peacock at the World Economic Forum ahead of his expected 2028 presidential run.
Newsom’s antics to draw attention included hawking a pair of Trump-signatured knee pads, but Bessent made the Democrat regret that he did.
“I think Gavin Newsom may be cracking up, some of these things he’s saying. I think he may be in over his hairdo,” the Trump official said Thursday in an interview with Politico. “Being on the national stage is very different than being governor of California with no signature achievements.”
“To say strange things like President Trump is a tyrannosaurus rex, what the hell does that mean? I can say Gavin Newsom is a brontosaurus with a brain the size of a walnut,” Bessent continued. “And, if you brought the knee pads, maybe that was for his meeting with Alex Soros.”

To the surprise of no one, Newsom met with Alex Soros while in Davos. Bessent referred to Soros in a speech as Newsom’s “billionaire sugar daddy.” He also said the Democratic governor “may be the only Californian who knows less about economics than Kamala Harris.”
While on the world stage, Newson tried to flip the script on Trump, accusing the American president of unprecedented corruption and turning America into an authoritarian state, according to the New York Post.
The accusation came after Trump announced that California was facing an investigation for fraud and corruption.
“The $100 red kneepads were available for pre-order on Newsom’s website, with the proceeds going to fund his Campaign for Democracy committee — which is boosting his profile ahead of a widely expected run for president in 2028,” the Post reported.
