The hero who sprang into action after a father-son duo opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Australia last month visited America this week.
Ahmed al-Ahmed, an immigrant shop owner, was in New York as the guest of Rabbi Yehoram Ulman, the organizer of the event on the beach that resulted in the deaths of 15 people, when a reporter asked al-Ahmed if he would be visiting President Donald J. Trump during his visit.
“I wish. I want to meet him, he is a hero of the world. I love him, he’s a strong man,” the Muslim shop owner said.

Having lived in Australia for the past 15 years, al-Ahmed was visiting Bondi Beach for coffee when the terror attack unfolded. He managed to tackle one of the gunmen and took away his rifle, but was shot five times, suffering bullet wounds to his chest, shoulder, and arm.
“I’m defending my people,” he said. “It’s defending innocent people, whatever their religion,” al-Ahmed said of his actions. “I didn’t think about anything. I think only behind me, kids crying, woman screaming. I felt, I’m the one who has to save them.”
