Recall when stock market guru Nancy Pelosi’s January 6 Committee rolled out former Mark Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson to tell a fanciful tale about how President Donald Trump all but commandeered a Secret Service vehicle from the backseat, while fighting off an agent with one hand?

The media was worked up into a lather, regurgitating the fabricated propaganda. But former Special Counsel Jack Smith not only shredded Hutchinson’s credibility in a congressional deposition, as shared by Jonathan Turley, but the credibility of every media outlet that disseminated her fable.

“If I were a defense attorney and Ms. Hutchinson were a witness, the first thing I would do was seek to preclude some of her testimony because it was hearsay, and I don’t have the full range of her testimony in front of me right now, but I do remember that that was a decent part of it,” Smith said.

He also said that they found no support for the claims, according to Turley.

“We interviewed, I think, the people she talked to, and we also interviewed, if my recollection is correct, officers who were there, including the officer who was in the car,” Smith said. “And that officer, if my recollection is correct, and I want to make sure I’m right about this, said that President Trump was very angry and wanted to go to the Capitol, but the version of events that he explained was not the same as what Cassidy Hutchinson said she heard from somebody secondhand…. a number of the things that she gave evidence on were secondhand hearsay, were things that she had heard from other people and, as a result, that testimony may or may not be admissible, and it certainly wouldn’t be as powerful as firsthand testimony.”

Turley added a comment on the media’s despicable actions, “Like so many other debunked viral stories, the media seemed to just shrug and move on after the testimony. After playing up the account in wall-to-wall coverage and cover pages, the press has again moved on with little self-awareness or circumspection.”

But the media will not be held to account for its actions. Neither will Cassidy Hutchinson or the politically-motivated January 6 Committee, including Liz Cheney, who had her slimy hands all over Hutchinson’s fabrication.

My favorite tactic is when undisclosed government sources feed the press made up information and rumors, the press then reports these fake allegations as credible insider information, & then the federal agency uses the news report as pretext for an investigation and evidence.

In my experience,the media’s exhaustive efforts to push a false narrative, without acknowledging their error when demonstrated, is the most damning indictment. I remember the Cold War Soviet press performing the same act for the same purpose.
