MTG alleges Mike Johnson is a puppet being controlled by Trump’s White House

Daily Caller News Foundation

Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene alleged Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has no say in President Donald Trump’s agenda, and is instead directed to act as a rubber stamp for the White House, the New York Times reported Monday.

Greene detailed her final conversations with the president, her frustrations with the stalled House of Representatives, and the threats made against her family in a series of wide-ranging interviews with the outlet. Greene’s comments toward Johnson come on the heels of plummeting approval ratings for the Republican-led Congress as well as alleged widespread member dissatisfaction with Johnson and his leadership style, as the legislative body attempts to tackle policies on health care and stock trading.

“I want you to know that Johnson is not our speaker. He is not our leader. And in the legislative branch — a totally separate body of government — he is literally 100 percent under direct orders from the White House,” Greene told the Times. “And many, many Republicans are so furious about that, but they’re cowards.”

“I certainly think that the current leadership, and specifically the speaker, needs to change the way that he approaches the job. We need to actually go back to leading the House of Representatives,” California Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley told reporters in December.

Kiley, whose district was divided up by California’s Prop 50 redistricting measure, became an outspoken critic of Johnson after his push to ban mid-decade redistricting nationwide went unheard by House leadership.

“Shitty,” is how one member described Johnson’s leadership style to NOTUS. “If you asked members for their honest review of Johnson, he’d be at a 20% approval rating.”

Republican New York Rep. Elise Stefanik also publicly spat with the speaker over social media in December, claiming he was blocking a provision she was attempting to secure in the National Defense Authorization Act. Johnson said her claims were false, prompting Stefanik to accuse the speaker of spouting “more lies” about being unaware of members’ legislative goals.

“The Speaker texted me yesterday claiming he ‘knew nothing about it.’ Yeah right. This is his preferred tactic to tell Members when he gets caught torpedoing the Republican agenda. It wasn’t on your radar?”

Johnson’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
