Texas school issues statement after substitute teacher arrested on child sex offenses

A 30-year-old substitute teacher in Texas is facing a slew of felony charges involving inappropriate conduct with a child.

Madison Jones was arrested by the Midlothian Police Department on December 19, just two days after a report alleging the sexual assault involving a child was filed. She is currently being held on a $90,000 bond.

A second suspect, 37-year-old Zackery Dondlinger of Happy, Texas, was arrested just days later and charged with sexual performance by a child.

Midlothian Police Department Assistant Chief Scott Brown confirmed that Jones and Dondlinger were in a “dating relationship” in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Jail records from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office show Jones is being held on charges including aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, as well as two second-degree felony counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and a first-degree felony charge of possession of child pornography involving more than 500 visual depictions,” the outlet reported.

A Facebook post from the department indicated that the investigation isn’t over yet, meaning more victims and/or suspects could be identified in the future.

“The Midlothian Police Department extends its gratitude to the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center for their assistance, as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Office of the Attorney General — Fugitive Apprehension Unit, and the Loving County Sheriff’s Office for their support in locating and apprehending Dondlinger,” it reads. “This investigation remains ongoing.”

The school that had hired Jones in the past, Midlothian Independent School District, told CBS News that she had only been at the school “four times during the past 12 months, including at Heritage High School on Nov. 19 and Baxter Elementary School on Oct. 28, Oct. 29 and Nov. 3.” They also noted that she is no longer employed with their district.

“Our district process for monitoring employee criminal history functioned as intended, and we were notified quickly by the DPS,” they said in a statement. “The substitute teacher is no longer employed by MISD and the district followed its required reporting procedures with the Texas Education Agency.”

They also stressed that there is “no indication that the charges are related to Jones’ time as a substitute teacher, or that anything occurred at a Midlothian ISD campus or activity,” according to CBS.

“Midlothian police said there is no connection between Jones’ job as a substitute teacher and this case,” the outlet added.

As the investigation is still ongoing, anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Midlothian Police Detective Dawson Frazer at 469-672-0056.
