Former Vice President Kamala Harris is apparently looking forward to another presidential run.
Despite doing nothing but shilling another book in the year since her catastrophic loss to President Donald Trump, Axios is reporting that Harris has recently “made several moves this week that many Democrats see as the beginnings of a 2028 campaign.” This comes amid party concerns about her viability as a serious candidate, though it’s worth noting that she has been consistently placing near the top of polls and is taking an early 2028 lead among young Democratic voters.
Additionally, she has expanded her book tour for 107 Days, which is a behind-the-scenes peek into her truncated campaign following former President Joe Biden’s decision to step out of the race. “Tour stops in early 2026 will include the historically critical primary state of South Carolina and cities with many Black voters, including Detroit, Jackson, Miss., Memphis, Tenn., and Montgomery, Ala.,” Axios reports.
She has also been reportedly hanging out with party leaders on both the state and national levels for the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) winter meetings. According to the outlet, people familiar with the event mentioned that “DNC chair Ken Martin introduced Emhoff as the former second gentleman and quipped that he could be the future first gentleman.”
All signs seem to be pointing toward a new run at the White House for Harris, including her change in rhetoric.
“She railed against both parties and the status quo in a speech Friday to Democratic officials. Many in the room told Axios they were struck by how different Harris’s remarks were from her Biden-defending message on the campaign trail last year,” the outlet noted.
“Both parties have failed to hold the public’s trust,” Harris reportedly said. “Government is viewed as fundamentally unable to meet the needs of its people…. People are done with the status quo, and they’re ready to break things to force change.”
“We cannot afford to be nostalgic for a flawed system that failed so many,” she added, blasting Trump as a “symptom” of the larger problem.
According to Harris spokesperson Kirsten Allen, the former VP “will approach 2026 with the same commitment that anchored 2025 — listening to the American people, reflecting where leadership has fallen short, and helping shape the path forward beyond this political moment.”
She added that this will include “supporting efforts to win back Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.”
But while young people may see Harris as their best option in 2028, it remains to be seen if the party elites will allow her to have a second chance. Her failure to clinch even one swing state in 2024 may be too much of a mental barrier for Democrats terrified of another four years of Republican leadership.
